"Zombies in the Endzone"

"Zombies in the Endzone" was created by argonaut
This was going to be my workshop entry, but I decided to make it a Halloween treat for all the folks at SWM. (I might still be able to crank out a story for the workshop.)
"Dr. Randolph" is an homage to one of the main characters in Conceptfan's "Randolph and Kim."
Can anyone name the movie in which two colleges named Huxley and Darwin are football rivals?

...Does that say the next story involves beach volleyball? Dude, tell me that one has an illustration too.

Nice story that brought back some old memories. Perfect choice for a Halloween story.

I think the captain of the Huxley team was named Spalding

Ha. Only a true movie geek would know. Your answer's "Horse Feathers" though I admit to having a strong preference for "A Day at the Races" just because of all that MGM money that Thalberg was happy to throw at their productions for Metro (despite his untimely death.) My favorite scene is Hugo and Flo trying to have a nice quiet dinner. ("Thank you." "Thank YO!")
You remain, along with Dr. Muttonchops, my absolute favorite writer. Ever since discovering you with "How Atalanta Kept the Bridge", I've devoured your fiction like a glutton. Like the work of Dr. Muttonchops, you hold high the wonderful characterizations and plots of Silver Age heroines and imbue your stories with a warmth and humanity that I always find painful by its absence in some of the 'bad girl' fiction that the site often hosts (no matter how skillful!)
Please accept gratitude from a devoted fan and encouragement for all your future writing. And for the record, the illustrations with your pieces are absolutely SENSATIONAL.

It's hard to admit I'm not a big fan of Scooby Doo, the cartoon never was a big part of my childhood. But the story works great, it's of the right length, it's fun to read, plays a lot of details very nice and it's still very close to the spirit of the original. This last bit is usually what keeps me from writing fanfictions/What Ifs, I really have hard times to keep them in line with the basic spirit of the serie. Great job on that, Argo

Thanks, guys.
steelknight: I'm not actually planning a sequel at the moment, but if I ever do write that story, I'll be sure to commission an illustration for it.
eromacque: Horse Feathers--you are correct, sir. Nice to find a Marx Brothers fan on this forum. A Day at the Races is my favorite as well.
Ace: Groucho was Captain Spaulding in Animal Crackers. In Horse Feathers, he plays Professor Wagstaff, the new president of Huxley College. He goes to a speakeasy to recruit a couple of football players and gets Harpo and Chico by mistake. Hijinks ensue.
Who knows the speakeasy's password?
Anon: Actually, I didn't care much for Scooby-Doo when I was a kid. But over the past few years, I've seen some of the newer full-length cartoons on the Cartoon Network and found them rather enjoyable (some more than others).

I thought when I read it that it would fit in well with the workshop. If you do manage to get another story written for the workshop I'll be in awe; I'm having a hard enough time getting one written, let alone two.
As for the story, I felt that it reads as if it could be a Scooby Doo story. I didn't watch too much Scooby as a child, but I could certainly hear all the main characters' voices in my head from the ones I did watch and have seen since.
Thanks for writing it and sharing for Haloween.
