Lagniappe: Firecracker

Lagniappe: Firecracker was created by inactive
Now that the short story workshop is over, I've submitted the other story I was working on as lagniappe (what we in New Orleans call a little something extra): "Firecracker".

This is a very different story to "Fly the Deadly Skies". So if you didn't like that story, give this one a chance. It's short - a little over a thousand words.

This is my third story to be inspired by the "superwoman walks into a bar" prompt, if you include "The Neutral Ground". I have to give big thanks to Argonaut for coming up with such a fertile jumping off point for stories.

While I think that "Deadly Skies" was definitely a better story, this one is pretty nice too and I'm glad you submitted it (which reminds me that I have a couple of unfinished drafts to work on). Keep writing.

I was in N'awlins once.

How do you pronounce Lagni-- I can't spell it.

Lovely little story, definitely my favourite of your three "superwoman walks into a bar" tales (although that is largely due to my personal tastes, as I'm sure you're understand). I'd love to hear more about Piper, and where she came from!

Incidentally, I've been meaning to ask you if you are planning to continue your older Stupendous Girl and Alternative History series, both of them had got to a very interesting stage in your last chapters and I'm keen to find out where you go from there.

Thank you. I have no definite plans for Piper, but anything is possible.

With Stupendous Girl and Alternate Histories, I feel like I wrote myself into a corner because I was making them up as I went along and because they were not originally intended to be series.

I have a scene and a rough outline for the next SG. Maybe reseeding some of the older stories will inspire me to finish.

I don't know if Alternate Histories will return to the Liberty Belle timeline. I have a couple of scenes written for the nazi superwoman takeover of Argentina, but it never really came together. I also want to do something with "The Cuban Supergirl Crisis" in 1962. Maybe someday.

Basically, I hit a big writers block on series.

I agree. It's a nice take on the supergirl in a new world.

I thought when I read it that this was probably a story that was considered as an entry into the workshop. I definitely think that Deadly Skies was the right choice to enter, but this was an enjoyable story in its own right. The superwoman is a more pleasant character than some that you have written about and in this story I got the feel that all she really wants to do is to help others, something that for whatever reason her people don't want her to do. Thanks for submitting it.

I would also add my voice to those who hope you do sometime get the inspiration to continue your previous series (especially Alternate Histories, which was my personal favourite since it ticked both the history and super-powered women boxes), though I quite understand if you're never able to. I've had issues of my own with writing sequels, so you have my sympathies there.
