To post something vague, and then to respond to being rightfully questioned about it with a statement assuming that the audience viewing it should be aware of it is insulting. Or, at least, the statement that assumed it was insulting.
A simple statement pointing to what he was referring to would have sufficed, and been well received. Plus, I've seen enough from the original poster to know that he has a decent command of the English language.
As I said in my post, it comes across as insulting.
It certainly doesn't help that the reply was "...whoosh...".
On a final note, I'm not certain the statement required a moderator to shut down the thread or to threaten action against a member.

Probably enough said on this subject... lets get back to why we come here.
By the way, anyone like the Ireland Baldwin picts I've been posting, or am I the only one who thinks she's a serious contender for portraying some superwoman on TV or in the movies someday? With black hair, she'd be great as a very young Wonder Woman, and she could be a 21st century Supergirl in my world any day.
While SG is supposed to be about 5'8 or so (although she was 5'11 in the 1980's series), I think having her standing as tall as her cousin would be pretty interesting.

The funniest thing about the Thread being shut/shot down by the American Moderators was the fact that the mod wasn't American.
As for the height, I get a little disinterested when the girls get over "believable" height such as 6'3ish. Don't like my super gals as tall as Brittney Greiner...

Personally, I don't find height as such a major turn-on or turn-off. A woman drastically taller than her lover or romantic interest, however, is an issue, just because it brings to mind images for me that are more awkward and humorous than erotic. Thus, I prefer stories where the superwomen are within the bounds of normalcy as far as height goes. On the other hand, I've read and loved erotic stories about pixie/fairy sized women, and amazonian women 8 feet and up. As long as the height disparity isn't obvious enough to detract from the major reason I'm reading the story, I'm fine with it.
I've never read a giantess story I really liked, but that's because almost all of them end up being stories where the giantess is alone in her size and crushes everything around her, which isn't my thing.

Well, the statement about "Yanks living on a different planet" can be considered a breach of the general principles of the netiquette about not discriminating other users because of country/race/sex/religion/whatever.
On a more personal note, I was the first one to ask for explanations and I'm not from the US at all (okay, my grandmother was born in Pittsburg, but that's all), as anybody can clearly see from the notes under my profile. I'm not taking this personally, but it seem a bit disrespectful to other users to automaticly assume that if someone doesn't get a post it must be from a certain part of the world.

I don't want to into details about this, but the warning wasn't issued based just on that particular post.

I like those picture a lot, although I don't know enough about her to say if she could be a good Supergirl or not. I think that portraying a character right is more matter of attitude and disposition, rather than physique alone.
Case in point: Monica Bellucci. While I can't deny that she looks gorgeous, she doesn't seem able to do look and feel anything but flat and uninteresting when in front of a camera.
d_k_c wrote: Which brings up an intresting question...At what point does a girl become too tall. I think that anything over 6ft tall is a bit much. But this is going to vary for nearly everyone. I will say though, a dark haired Busty Superwoman, who matches Supermans height and costume style....(If Supermans height is around 5ft11) would be a cool concept....And if Lex cloned her from Supermans DNA to defeat Superman, Could be a great story
This is actually a pretty interesting idea. It might be a very interesting story.
Jabbrwock wrote: The ideal height of a superwoman depends heavily on context. Is she passing as normal among mere mortals? That imposes certain restrictions. Is she a member of a super-powered alien race whose members are taller or shorter than normal humans on average? Other restrictions. This all leaves aside things that are purely a matter of personal taste.

I think that my thought are the same as Jabb's on this matter: a character physique has to be appropriate to the story and context.
Fist of all a lot of our supergirls aren't exactly from Earth's neighbourhood. A 8' tall supergirl might be considered gigantic on Earth, but barely above average on her home planet.
Also it's worth considering how the character is meant to fit in with the rest of the world. Allow me to put forward a couple of examples from my own recent stories:
- In "The Den" , I described the main character "as tall as the tallest main patron", while I wasn't very specific I imagined her being pretty much 6' and something. She would definitly stood out from a crowd, but that was meant to. The story was heavily inspired by R.E. Howard's Conan and - like Conan - the main character was meant to have a powerful presence that would immediatly focalize the attention on her. She doesn't look normal in any way, but she's not meant to.
- In "Closure Hour" on the other hand, Maggie is barely 5'5" and with a rather unimpressive look. The kind of girl that might be described as having a nice face, but that wouldn't make any head turn by simply walking around. I described the character like this because I wanted her to connect on a more normal level. She didn't have to stood out or have an inspiring presence. She is a normal girl with more normalish problems and I tried to gave her a look that reflected my idea.

…Hell, to put it into perspective, could you imagine if all of us in SWM were in Afghanistan, if we were discovered we’d be stoned to death. We in SWM not only believe in equal rights for women….we take it to the next level.
And if the moderator is not American, I am relieved. Cause I was almost under the impression that Americans were ultra-sensitive. As a Canadian, I can’t walk down the block without being made fun of. The strange thing is…..I kinda like it that way.
But this thread has given me an idea for a new story….on top of the WS I’ll be participating in.The new story will have a Lesbian Genealogist, hired by Luthor to create a superman clone with the dna he has acquired from Superman….could be fun lol

So as I read this post, for me it came across as rather friendly mockery. Of course, mockery is by definition disrespectful. But that doesn't mean that the mocking person means offense. For me it was like the "men are from mars, women are from venus" thing. A female friend of mine once talked about horses to which I couldn't relate, which she - with a wink - commented with "Oh right, sorry. You boys are all about football and cars".
I don't know if calling an American a "yank" is offensive, but I personally would never get the idea of being insulted by a statement that says that I (or the group that I belong to) lives on a different planet.
To me the author's statement simply said "Okay, shouldn't have brought this up, you guys probably have a completely different context.".
I don't know what the author meant by "woosh". Of course I also don't know if the author was pissed that nobody knew what he was talking about and was purposefully insulting.
Just: When reading the thread, I was surprised about the reactions. I guess I'd have locked it down too, but rather because of the course it took after the statement. A calm and objective discussion and exchange about view seemed to have become very difficult within the scope of the thread.
Also if nobody minds, I'll write my view on shadars images into the thread where they were posted. No offense, I just think that it doesn't belong here.

Estaban, I think the problem was exactly the context. The post provided no context at all. It was just a single sentence that nobody without a specific interest would get and it wasn't even relevant to the theme and subject of this forum. There's an off-topic section for this kind of posts, but this one wasn't in it.
Now after this kind of presentation, the only explanation provided by the original author was something that sounded too much like a mockery. So what might have been a joke in another situation has become an insult.

"Woosh" means that the answer flew over the recipient head, impling that he just doesn't care about it.

"Woosh," in that particular context, is typically a comment suggesting that the poster made a clever comment earlier and that the replies to the comment showed that the repliers were too slow and stupid to understand it. Among very good friends who routinely engage in friendly insults, it can pass. On a forum, it usually takes on a much harder edge - as does almost anything else. Forums are usually a bad place to engage in friendly insults and sarcasm, because it's easy for the humor to pass unnoticed, leaving only the insults.
