Ugh. I had an awful night as a fan, and a fairly poor two nights as a gambler.
There's one more round left of this "group phase". I'll try and post a round up tomorrow.

I know this is kinda off topic

but did any of you see spurs last night?

Truly a comic performance
Very entertaining for a lot of the wrong reasons - the skill was patchy but the chaos was catchy...

So
Pool romp home. Torres leading the charge. Hicks is now talking of seeling his share? What? You only sell when you're winning? C'mon. Pool aren't done yet mr. millionaire....

And Celtic are still in it with a match next Tuesday

I have jaw-ache from laughing at Sp*rs this year.

They aren't home yet. Still have to win the last game.
The fans and players seem to have more confidence in the manager than the owner.

And Celtic are still in it with a match next Tuesday

They've worked out how to make their home games count AND how to scrap on the road.

Toon showed the passion that had been lacking. The home team deserved a win more than the away, I thought. Overall probably a fair-ish result given the lack of clear-cut opportunities for either side. No space for either midfield. My lot were missing Hleb, Cesc, Flamini and v. Persie so I reckon a draw away at SJP is a good result for us. Looking at it from a season-wide perspective, it's a handy point, especially considering our injuries. We'd have lost that game last year. For your lot, you stopped the rot, the players showed they do care. You ought to be happy with the point after your recent games.

Don't get me wrong. I hate FatSam with a deep passion. I wished we'd thumped his team and got him the sack. There was less of the dirty kicking and elbowing crap that he used to do with Bolton, but there was still enough to keep my hatred for him alive and strong. Taylor on Abedayor how many times? Smith on everyone how many times? Yeah, Sagna was totally out of order - so embarrassing to see that - but he was immediately (rightly) booked for his one transgression. Taylor, Smith, Milner etc. got away it time and again (including twice in the last minute). I think Newcastle have the players to compete without resorting to that. However, Allardick doesn't know any other way, the bastard. Maybe he'll keep his job long enough to see his team get stuffed at our gaff. That'd be nice. One thing you got to be asking is how come you can raise your game like that for us, and play so shit against mid-table teams? That's a poor reflection on your manager, I say.

Still, Toon fans have to be happier with the commitment after the last few weeks.

Agreed, cap'n. Amazing turnaround. And a good example of how the groups of mini-leagues system can be so fascinating.

GaaaaaaH lack of edit button

The main gist of that post was to highlight Pool's inability to string two games together and the rafaman's thinkermantactics blowing-up-in-the-face-ability that surely will impact later in the Champs league (not to mention the race for third - which is the new cut off and the end of next years hope)

If he doesn't stop the rot they're sunk

Shev scored in the 90th when it was all over. Agreed Liverpool look wobbly at the moment. Second time they've wobbled this year, and they need to sort it out quick or they could be too far off the pace.

It's turning out to be a strange season so far. But if "strange" keeps meaning "unexpectedly good for my boys" then I'm not complaining.

Disagree strongly with your "played the kids" remark. There was only 1 teenager in each team's line-up. There were three or four "reserve" players for each team, but with rafa's rotation, what's a reserve and what's a first team player? And aren't all Chelsea's reserves 10 million quid internationals? "Kids" means an average age below 20. Like the Arsenal team that beat Blackburn with 11 changes from the side that started against Chelsea.

Don't take anything for granted for the semi-finals. 3 of the 4 teams are involved in 3 other competitions they take more seriously (FA Cup, League and CL).

didn't mean to push yer buttons on the kids remark CF  :?

Next time I'll try not to refer to players 14 years younger than me as kids but sometimes it just pops out.....y'know? I didn't mean it in the "you'll never win anything with kids" type of way. Sorry

Not sure I agree, Captain. You lost a league game to the leaders when you were rudderless. You aren't getting into Europe through the league this year and you aren't getting relegated, so it was pretty meaningless. I reckon losing a semi-final (not even getting the big day out) against your no. 1 rivals, heavily, is as bad as it gets.

You need Martins back bad. You were toothless in both games. Also is Duff off-form?... don't remember him being that bad.

What a hit by Flamini, though. He had a brilliant game, I thought.

Cheer up, Cap'n. At least Fat Sam is gone. Keegan'll need time to sort it all out.

If Barton was locked in a room by himself, he'd still manage to end up in a fight. (We might actually get to see if that's true...)

My favourite Wise story: He was so "tired and emotional" on a flight back from an away international that he fell "asleep". His team mates lifted him from his seat and stashed him in the overhead luggage locker. When he "woke up", he was apparently a little bit displeased with his colleagues, a feeling which he expressed. The airline claimed for several thousand pounds worth of damage...
