On the other hand, its not really important either.
However, if the comic writers decided that Ursa should become a perfect little nun, now that would piss me off. He's a goody two-shoes and she's a bad ass. This doesn't change that, thankfully.

"David S. Goyer's story of Superman renouncing his American citizenship will not be followed up upon and is in of itself a stand alone issue..."

Hopefully they will try a story where is arrested for being an illegal immigrant, and to explore the implications of what it means to be, and become, a citizen. But I'm not holding my breath.
Of course, we can always consider how Ursa/Faora might handle such a problem. The Border Patrol guy who tried to bring her to justice might wind up on the Moon. Parts of him anyway. Very small parts.

That said, I never read that issue. Was the issue of what Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for the Daily Planet, would do about his citizenship and residency even addressed? A superhero can fly to his Fortress of Solitude bachelor pad or crash at the Justice League's orbital HQ, a reporter kind of needs an actual home, though.

I'd have been more impressed if Clark Kent renounced his American citizenship. Clark is where he has all his emotional investment, Superman is just a uniform he puts on to do what his sense of duty and personal code requires him to do without destroying his ability to have a personal life.

The leaking of that panel had caused tons of problems and speculations on the net, literally clogging every superhero baed site for the last month. Personally I was holding back my judgement, since a single panel doesn't make a whole story. At the moment, all the 3 major characters of the DC-verse seem to be experiencing some serious character derangement (Wonder Woman has recovered a bit with last issue #610).
Anyway there was something that bothered me a lot about that panel:
- As much as the "American Way" has been a part of Superman's myth he never used that quote again since Crisis in 1984 (but many authors seem to forget this)
- The same way, after Crisis Superman was no longer a honorary citizen of the U.S.A. (Clark Kent is a U.S. citizen by adoption)

"Superman’s Song” - Crash Test Dummies
Tarzan wasn't a ladies' man
He'd just come along and scoop 'em up under his arm like that
Quick as a cat, in the jungle
But Clark Kent, now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin' around in no junglescape
Dumb as an ape doing nothing
Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man like him
Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job
Even though he could have smashed through any bank in the United States
He had the strength, but he would not
Folks said his family were all dead
The planet crumbled but Superman, he forced himself to carry on
Forget Krypton and keep going
Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man like him
Tarzan was king of the jungle and lord over all the apes
But he could hardly string together four words: "I Tarzan, you Jane"
Sometimes when Supe was stopping crimes
I'll bet that he was tempted to just quit and turn his back on man
Join Tarzan in the forest
But he stayed in the city
Kept on changing clothes in dirty old phone booths 'til his work was through
And nothing to do but go on home
Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man like him
And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man like him
*I just wanted to add that imo this song is much better than that cloying 'Superman (It's Not Easy)' tune by Five for Fighting.*
