Were the Gators even challenged throughout the tournament? It seems like they didn't have any close games. I don't remember a non #1 seed being so dominant in the tournament before.

Congratulations to them!!

Tiny little stumbling block against G'town, but for the most part you're right. We had an incredibly balanced team this year that matched up well against our opponents.

I am afraid that the Bruins just have not been the same since I left UCLA in 1975 ( Coach Wooden leaving at the same time had nothing to do with it).

Enjoy it while it lasts. How many banners is that for you, one? Give me a call when you reach double digits!

Maybe in another week I can take the Paper Bag off my head at work!

Double digits? I guess you're referring to the winning point spread? :P

Out California way, we like to "Hang Ten." And if we hadn't lost in 1975
to North Carolina at North Carolina State in the Semi-finals in triple overtime, we would have done that then. Instead, we "Hung Ten" in
1995!

Lost in 1975 to? Yes, Stormin Norman Sloan, former Gator round ball coach during my tenure!

Ace, just havin some funsy! In all seriousness, that 13 yr run you guys had I think still is one of the greatest accomplishments in sports that will NEVER again be duplicated. Wanna hear something crazy? in the 2000's, the Gators are the only team TO PLAY IN TWO FINALS. And the Bruins WON it 12 of 13 years! Amazing! Wooden, Alcindor, Walton, Goodrich....the legacy stands on its own!

BTW, Ace, dunno if you have Sirius Radio (ESPN), but Bill Walton did the funniest diatribe about UCLA basketball on Monday morning -- was like 13 straight minutes of dialogue (seemingly without taking a breath). If you didn't hear it, you should look for it-- prob somewhere on the Net. Funny cool stuff.....

Peace

You're right LFan. UCLA's run in the old days will, most likely, never be duplicated. Which is a good thing in my opinion. Seeing the same teams win over and over is not exciting at all (unless it's my team of course). I always like new blood.

I actually had a class with Bill Walton. In order to graduate, I had to take 9 non-science classes. 3 music/art, 3 English and 3 geography/history. The biggest “Mick” on campus was the
Development of Jazz 132A and B. You know that if the UCLA football and basketball players were taking this one, it was not Rocket Science!

There was one other interesting thing about that class. Unlike my Physics, Engineering, Math and Chemistry courses, there were these strange humanoid creatures that wore these things called “Skirts”. Very interesting!

UCLA Basketball at the time was a little brutal. The local McDonalds in
Westwood would give any student with UCLA ID and a game ticket free French fries if UCLA scored 90 points. If they got to 100, it was a Big Mac and 110 was a Big Mac and fries.

I can remember exciting games where UCLA was pounding someone like the Oregon Ducks 90 something to 40 something while we were going nuts in the stands cheering on our benchwarmers to pound theirs with cheers of
“Big Mac” clap clap, “Big Mac” clap, clap. In retrospect, it probably wasn’t the most sportsman like thing to do, but we did get a lot of free food!

I was also very lucky while I was there. They held a lottery for the 5000
student tickets that were available each year (20,000 undergrad, 10,000 grad students). I won in my Soph, Junior and Senior years. Evey game was a sellout of the 12,000 seat arena, and there was no way a student could afford a ticket unless you had the $2.50 student one.

And I can tell you this. Winning 88 in a row never gets old!

Heh. At least our women's team made the sweet sixteen in the NCAA tourney for the first time in school history. I'm glad one of our teams did ok.

Our basketball team has been gradually improving for a couple of years. We're in a tough conference, and they've been voluntarily scheduling some tough non-conference games, so the record staying the same doesn't reflect the fact that it's against more difficult competition than before. At this point, I'm just waiting for the start of football season to see what the new offensive coordinator can do.

The first ten minutes of this game has been the worst I have ever seen! Hard to play with both hands around your throat!

Well, congrats to your Gators. I can't believe the national championship in basketball is going to be a rematch of the football national championship game. Very odd.

In a cruel twist of fate, Mrs. Ace dragged me away from the TV after the first half to go see of all things “Stomp”. So instead of watching and listening to two hours of Stompin, I got to experience four!

UCLA could not get any easy looks from 15 feet in and took bad three point shots that couldn’t find the rim. Pretty good Defense there Lfan. I would expect that you will roll over the Buckeyes. One word of advice; don’t get into foul trouble early as it can ruin your whole night!
