What I Do

Just something i whipped up on the bus to work this morning.....

What I Do

A bird launches into the air from a nearby tree as you walk past. A cool breeze rustles its leaves softly. You can see your breath in the cool night air as he turns to you, an adoring grin spreading across his features. He embraces you, saying the three most dangerous words in the human language. “I love you”. He drops to one knee as you hear police sirens. He says “Will you marry me?”, as the moonlight glints off the ring in his hand.

What do you do?

The man across the desk adjusts his glasses slightly as he peers intently at the paperwork. He nods, almost to himself, in satisfaction. You squirm in your seat, nervously, your mind wandering to the soft music coming from the radio. He takes off his glasses, and looks you in the eye. “Well I can honestly say I have not seen a CV like this in a long time.” The music stops. All you hear is the special report describing the raging inferno downtown. The man stops talking and extends his hand.

What do you do?

Your friend grimaces in pain. You squeeze her hand as tightly as you dare, and encourage her to breathe. “Just one more push. One more”. Tears stream down her face. The doctor and midwife look on, a look of joy, awe, and determination shared between them. She turns her head to you as her breathing approaches something close to normal, and gasps “I'm glad your here.” A woman screams outside as a mugger accosts her at knifepoint. The doctor gets ready. Your friend starts to push as the mugger's knife inches to the throat of his victim.

What do you do?

Do you tell your lover I do?
Shake you new boss's hand in acceptance?
Squeeze your friend's hand tighter?

I only have one choice.

That's a good little short story. Shows how for a superheroine there might well not be enough time for family and friends.
