Scenes from the Virago Invasion - Day One

V-Day. Day One of the Virago Invasion of Earth. The moment mankind officially entered into the roster of endangered species. Had the invaders been mere mortal women, it is likely they would have conquered through sheer force of numbers alone, but possessed as they were of a starborn strength so many orders of magnitude above our own, our role on this planet was reduced in an instant to that of passive observers of our own demise.

New York was chosen as their first point of contact - the annihilation of the world's foremost city would send a powerful message across the globe. As night plunged the metropolis into darkness, the Virago dropped from the heavens in their thousands, quaking the earth with the violence of their impact, and jolting the city's eight million inhabitants from their slumber.

Manhattan bore the brunt of the onslaught. Bridges were torn down and tunnels ripped open, exposing them to the elements and transforming the once proud island into a veritable fortress prison. Satisfied that all means of egress had been severed, the Virago began their advance, unleashing a red hell upon the Manhattanites - a catalogue of cruelty the likes of which the world had never seen. Men and women were rendered first speechless by their terrible beauty, then rended limb from limb by their bare hands. All feeble attempts at resistance were met with the same appalling invulnerability, their bronzed flesh deflecting bullets as easily as it shattered fists. Human frailty had been pitted against alien might and we had been found so very wanting.

Those who tried to escape by braving the waters of the Hudson fared no better as heat vision from hundreds of pairs of eyes churned the river into a boiling morass. There was nowhere to run to and nowhere to hide, for how can you hide from an aggressor who can see through walls, hear your heartbeat and smell your fear? In desperation, many sought death by their own hand, but even suicide held no guarantees against an enemy capable of outrunning a speeding bullet or overtaking a body in freefall. A special death was reserved for those the Virago caught trying to deprive them of their sport.

Within a few short hours, every man, woman and child on the island was dead and every building had been reduced to rubble. Four hundred years of history gone overnight. As the sun rose over the beleaguered city, the Virago horde turned their pitiless gaze on the four remaining boroughs and the world held its collective breath.

Ouch. Having a foot put through you like that must be very painful if you survive (which they probably didn't). Excellent picture. Thank you.

Ah, yes, the patented Virago spear kick - not a nice way to go. Thanks for all the feedback, guys. There's more scenes from the invasion on their way, but you'll have to be patient, I'm afraid, as it takes a while to find enough suitable images for a new collage.
