X ray vision

Last episode and a couple others I noticed that X ray vision would have come in handy.
Then I got to thinking.

Has Supergirl ever used or even mentioned that she had X Ray vision?
I honestly can not remember if she has used that ability before.

Didn't she use it in the first series when her mum knocks on the door and Alex says 'Kara!' as she is in her cape and tights when she goes to open it. Melissa is 'oh, come on, I know fine who's at the door'

Yeah I'm pretty sure she has used X-ray vision a few times during the show.

Peace.

she uses it fairly frequently, most of the time successfully, her only failure of note being unable to ID James as the Guardian due to his armor being lined with lead.

She uses it every now and then, but always outside combat. The general implication is that x-ray (and super-hearing to a lesser degree) is very distracting or require a great deal of concentration, making it unsuited for fast-paced situations.

That's actually a pretty good observation. I never really considered it like that. Makes sense :)

Tnx Woodclaw :)

On thinking about Melissa's powers, I think the heat vision and x-ray vision may be a step too far. Give a Kryptonian girl on Earth superstrength and the ability to fly with her super-hearing and superbreath.. But, the dice are now cast...

I suppose they were just giving her the whole Supergirl package of powers. But to your point, what that shows, in dramatic situations, is that she's so incredibly powerful that nobody can challenge her. Which is not what this show is about.

But that was the whole Superman/Supergirl thing for ages, with some kind of vulnerability always added in that they had to overcome using their intelligence or perseverance or other personal traits.

Otherwise, you have to always generate massively powerful opponents that nobody else can possibly help with.

In fact, this show is really a soap opera with one character who happens to be Supergirl. She doesn't always get more airtime or isn't more important than the other characters.

Which is where the show gets jacked up. A canonical Kryptonian is FAR too powerful to mix with other people and have them do very much to help her. She'd overwhelm everyone. So they weaken her each week to the degree necessary to make the rest of the story work.

I certainly get tired of it at times. On some shows its OK. I just wish they'd be consistent. Which if they did would mean she's always fairly weak to make the rest of the show work. Not sure that's great either. Sometimes it's great to see her being tremendously superhuman.

I've rationalized it by thinking that her powers are a function of her level of fear or determination. Maybe some kind of adrenal surge. Only in the most dire of situations does she burn with full Kryptonian brightness.

Might have something to do with her suppressing her abilities all those years. She doesn't naturally power up all the way.

The show could work this concept in if they wanted to. It would make more sense and they could work off it.

Totally agree Shadar :)

Having a character of that power level does pose significant challenges in creating engaging scenarios.

I had a thought pop into my head last week once noticing how much more blonde MB looked:

What if they used that as a mechanic?... Her powers varying due to the degree of solar exposure (and could be measurable via her hair color)...

That would be cool... when she sucks up solar energy, at some point it starts to make her hair blonder. The blonder she gets, the greater her strength and power. That could be fun. Would put an end to blonde jokes too.

By that measure, she must have been a platinum blonde when she lifted Fort Rozz.

My imagery runs a but different than the TV show.

In my world, this is how a very blonde Kara might look as she gathers her powers to go after Fort Roz.

No sense risking tearing her costume in such a violent fight. She needs a arrive in a burst of shock and awe. This outfit might do it.

Although KrimeBuster has long dark hair those heels would work for my Workshop character in my story Born This Way.

Shameless plug.
