Updates on Annual Crossover was created by murdough
The date for this year's crossover, which will introduce Batwoman to the CW's Arrowverse has been set. Sunday December 9th(the Flash), Monday December 10th(Arrow), and Tuesday December 11th(Supergirl), with Supergirl and the Flash switching days for story purposes. Also, it's just been announced that Superman and Lois Lane will be appearing in all three episodes. Casting for Lois is scheduled to start "soon". Below is a link to EW.com with the news regarding Superman, as well as a piece of promo art that was recently released.

Including Superman in all episodes is great, because that implies he'll likely have more than a cameo role. I'd love it if he demonstrated some of what is at the core of his character -- compassion, humility and a strong sense of humanity.  The whole "never kill, no matter what" promise he's made. All things Kara knows, but struggles with sometimes.

That, of course, will be distinctively different than Snyder's Superman, who was a little too "god-like" for my taste.

If they do this, it might be good for both Supergirl TV, but also to further cement the changes in the public's eye that I suspect DC is going to make in Superman, post-Snyder. To basically make him more human. To show him full of kindness.

Obviously, that's where I'd like to see him go in the Supergirl movie as well. To be a mentor in both the TV show and the movie.

It looks like they might have a proper handle on Superman.  (And I hope they give Cavill a chance to do that Superman on screen. He'd be FANTASTIC.)

I love seeing Clark/Lois as a couple. I thought WW-Superman was "ok", but it never really worked for me.  Lois and Clark is where it's at.  I hope we see them as a strong loving couple.  Casting the right Lois to go with Superman is very vital.

Superman had become boring to me years ago.  But when they brought him back once again married to Lois and having a kid? Suddenly his stories seem much more interesting.  His humanity is what makes him a great character (his being Kryptonian only underscores his humanity).

I do wonder what they're going to do with the Batman shapped hole in the room.  Pretend he doesn't exist?  Do away with the "no batman" rule?  (It's their rule, that they made themselves, so they can change it at any time.)

Like Superman, Batman can overshadow things easily.

I also wonder why no Legends in the Crossover?  Easier to film?  All their actors do add a huge load onto the dynamic.  Sad because their previous crossovers were like a master class on how to balance all those elements AND move each shows plots forward.

Basically they felt that Legends has become more of it's own thing separate from the rest of the Arrowverse in terms of overall tone. Beebo vs Mallus in the season finale comes to mind. Sure, there will still be ties to the rest of the Arrowverse, especially with the character of Sara Lance and her personal link to Arrow, but aside from that, they're likely going to keep some distance. Granted, the death of Quentin Lance in the Arrow finale will likely effect Sara's character arc, but I doubt it'll go beyond a guest spot or two on Arrow. Hell, this coming season, the Legends are going to be dealing with fantastical creatures and the like(dragons, unicorns, etc), amplified by John Constantine becoming a regular on the show. That alone would contrast heavily with the more grounded tone this year's crossover seems to be taking. Mood whiplash, to use the name of the trope.

Even before reading that article, and say the same as murdough said, the tone of the show now wouldn't really gel.

Legends embraces its goofiness and plays on it.  Supregirl, and The Flash in particular, can also be light-hearted and fun at times, but not nearly as laugh out loud funny as Legends (to me anyway).  The producer in the article even references the finale - Bebo vs Mullus.  I found that hillarious :D

To have them crossover at this point would feel a bit, strange.  Thats not to say it can't be done, but mixing it up works better.  And having only 3 shows, allows for a tighter narrative, perhaps also more budget for each.

So this, to me, sounds like a good idea.

Just my thoughts :)

Peace.

Another new poster was released earlier today, emphasizing that all bets are off in this year's crossover. Funny thing is, Stephen Amell had tweeted a picture of himself in the process of getting a cast of his face done last month. Guess we finally know why. He also tweeted a behind the scenes picture of himself and Grant Gustin hanging around with Tyler Hoechlin, Tyler wearing a somewhat...different suit than what he usually sports. Too early to know what the exact details of the plot are, but given that the Monitor is going to be involved, and they're touching heavily on a "crisis" in Barry's future this season on the Flash, things ought to be epic.

Another big reveal about the crossover.

He's back. His existence in this incarnation of the multiverse was hinted in the second season of Flash, and of course John Wesley Shipp has had a presence on the Flash from day one, but it's nice to see him back in the classic red.

Is that the costume she'll wear in the movie?  If so, I either love it or really hate it and it bothers me that I can't decide which. <grin>

It's kind of like the Joker and Batman had sex together and made this... well, except that their both male and... well, forget it.

The red hair and the mask are like at war with each other.

Anyway... hope the crossover is a fun episode. Looks like it might be.

The most recent versions of Kate/Batwoman had her with that kind of chalk white skin when in costume. To be honest I'm not a fan of the effect on paper and even less on a real human being, but it's pretty accurate. I have to admit that the light really ruin the mask.

I'm pretty sure once the lighting and color correction is applied, it will look much better on tv.

That photo is not what the costume will look like on screen :)

Peace.

Well okay, maybe there is hope I can get past Elizabeth Tulloch's prior casting (Grimm) that has been burned into my memory.

Of course all this just makes me think something is true about the back door pilot rumors.

Actual story details have been released by Entertainment Weekly, and it's looking good. The basic premise is an Arkham Asylum doctor(played by Jeremy Davies) is somehow rewriting reality, some of the side effects being Oliver and Barry switching lives and they being the only ones on Earth-1 knowing that things have changed. Kara comes in to help, she being the only one who can see them for who they really are, possibly because she's from Earth-38. According to the article which I'll link below, the crossover will largely focus on the dynamic between Kara, Oliver, and Barry and will be more lighthearted compared to Invasion and Crisis on Earth-X, a lot of the comedy coming from Barry and Oliver having to adopt certain aspects of each personalities in order to better utilize their newfound skills/powers, as well as the awkwardness of living their temporary lives. They're also going back to a more episodic format for the crossover, compared to Crisis' continuous four hour narrative. The Supergirl portion of the crossover will have the feel and tone of an episode of Supergirl for example. The link to the full article is below.
