Not a huge Deadpool fan.
I liked the "leaked" trailer.
With Gina on board I have a great reason to watch now.

Ehhh,

Part of this is Carano from what i have seen is one of those actress who i wish was better. Shes good enough to play her character from UFC(and it is a obviously a bit of a chracter) but i am not sure anything else. The hyper agressive bad-ass girl who fights better then any man. If that's what we are going to get in Deadpool-well thats not bad persay, but not necessarily interesting.

Deadpool is a tricky character to make into a film becuse his defining characteristic is he really doesn't care about anything. He is also a murdeirous pyscholpathic kid. That can be cute in a comic-(and 90% of the time cute is the word) i am not sure it totally works in a movie You can give him a reason to care-and the comics have done that before-but its fake. It doesn't help that Reynolds isn't a great actor at making me belive he cares about things.

But well 90 minutes of action that can be fun right? Part of me feels that this an excuse to have a big SuperPowered brawl with a tough as female henchman. She can do that. Maybe do a little bit to set her up--but well....

Angel Dust in the comics is a superpowered super strong badass. But well not only that- -but she doesn't want to be her. At her best shes a better example of "Mutant is a metaphor for gay" that the modern Xmen really is, with her as a teen runaway trying to make it on her own. the conclusion of her plotline being that it turns out its all okay and that her parents loved her no matter what she was. I don't think where going to get that. I doubt where going to get any mention of the word Mutant or any of that in the movie. Angel Dust seems to be "Well we have done this many supervillianess we own the rights to so...okay this one"

Deadpool could be fun. There is a potential for a kind of cute R rated Gaurdians of the Galaxy type comedy superhero movie. I have my doubts though. This doesn't make me really any less or more excited-actually this most reminds me of the Movie Electra where about half a dozen Marvel Supervillians are henchman for electra to fight at the climax(including Deadpools traditional archnemesis Bloody Mary)

I do think Carano could be a good action star, and maybe a superheroine in a film. I kind of wish we got that. I think she would do better starting in lower budget action movies rather the costaring in big ones, but well i am not her agent.

your closing observation made me think of fan-favorite Bruce Campbell, who has said it's better to star in your own small movie, than have a minor part in a big movie. Not that he's never done the minor role bit -- it's just that if he has a choice he'll take a part like "My Name is Bruce" over one like Congo. One he's the star and is responsible for making the movie too (so he's in control of what is going on), the other, it's a job and a paycheck and maybe exposure/advertising. You take a few of those to keep your name in the hat.

I think your suggestion to Carano is spot on. She needs some time in front of the camera to make her better.

Haywire was ok, but it was almost too much. It was the Hollywood machine making a good first play. If it'd done better, she'd have leveled up and been able to move on as a main line action start. It was a good bet, and I'm happy the movie was made, but it didn't pay off. In the Blood is a much smaller movie, and she's actually given more room to act (making it evident that she is learning, but still has a ways to go). I do notice she's got three movies in the pipeline (two with Bautista, who I'll be interested to see in something other than Guardians, he was excellent in that).

She was good in Almost Human, but that's also because not much was required of her. (Damn, I actually liked that show.)

If only that nice budget independent movie market was thriving, she needs a fewer smaller movies and then get one of those indy small budget Superhero movies to cast her.

I hope we see more women in the fighting fields take up acting -- enough so we can find a few that can do a good job in front of the camera. I imagine somewhere out there is a female-Dwayne Johnson. He might not be the best actor in the world, but he gets the job done and is entertaining as hell to watch.

You bring up haywire which felt very much like a low budget action movie-but as you say to much. I think we where suposed to think of it like something like Commando or other 80s action movies, but Commando wasn't afraid to be goofy. You also bring up the Rock but in most of his movies he plays it a touch silly to-Hes an international bounty hunter who secretly wants to be a cook, He goes to a mysterious island where he does little pec dances, or his versions of swelling speaches are rap lyrics. It shows humanity.

The common knock against her-that she has a silly girly voice-could work for her.It suggests something about-he maybe a past or dare say a present where she has some vulnerability. Shes also not all that traditionally beautiful-but agian that can help-stars have been untradionally bueatiful for decades. Of all the actrors in hollywood of either gender she seems the most likely to be able to beat you up-which works for her. Her eyes are pretty good at selling emotion to-There is something there. However i would kind of like to see a scene where her daughter pushes ice cream in her face. I feel without it she is probabbly condemened to playing heavys in movies.

The problem with indie action movies is that done right they can make a good deal of money still. They do well overseas, good enough on DVD, and if you don't expect them to win july can do good in theaters-and ocasionally really excelentl. Lucy for example had by no means a large budget and did spectaculary. Plus less money you need to recapture-and if well they never get to the theater that also means you don't need to spend 25 million on Advertising. However as compared to say Guardians theyre not guaranteed to get 200 million which means studios are walking away from them. Increasingly there not even doing any rommantic comedies any more.

Which is kind of a shame, as i think they could be an interesting space for actors of either gender. Your right Actress who can do physicality could really work in this kind of space and do intresting stuff.

As regard to superhero movies-i kind of wish they didn't have to play it so safe. Lower budget movies can be intresting to explore themes and ideas(lucy for example) that may not entirely work but can be intresting. With the big budget stuff of Say AntMan they sometimes feel as if there doing the same stuff with just lesser and lesser known comic heros. Experiment a little To go back to Deadpo0l. If its a Pg-13 rated movie about a likable guy who kills people yes and maybe a bit of a badboy but not really an antihero someone fucked up.

I think Gina is hot as all, and I love seeing her on the screen. Her acting is admitttingly limited, but with her skills it is something I think they can live with and are serviceable. I personally see her more as a "Vinny Jones" type who is a physical presence and constant supporting character rather than a Rock or Arnold physical type of leading man.

However, history would indicate -- at least for men -- all it takes is one breakout hit to cement one's legacy, acting skills or not. Sly Stalone, Arnold, and JCvD are all prime examples that you don't need to even be a decent actor once you are a proven commodity. Haywire, I thought, might have been this breakout hit for Gina but I think suffered from some bad marketing and distribution which didn't help her already uphill climb.

There are two schools of thought.
Write the part to fit the actress or find the actress to fit the part.
Gina has been pretty good in everything I have seen her in and she is as hot as hell!
Write to her strengths and she will do just fine.

Not sure how I feel about this, a love interest fr Deadpool. He can take all kinds of story though, and he is the type to get obsessed.

On the bonus side: Morena Baccarin.

Ehh they have done the "Deadpool actually cares about something or someone"plotline before-sometimes to good results.

If there going to do a movie--well you kind of have to do something like it i guess.

And like you say Baccarin excelent choice for it. Shes good at not taking guff-and that would be the key to doing a deadpool rommance.

Though i got to say of all the superhero movies in active Devolopment this is perhaps the one i am most Ehh about(Hear that Ant Man you got lucky)
