I would say it's the 2nd best DC movie with Dark Knight being #1. Though the movie is definitely worth every penny and is IMO a top 5 comic book movie and potential movie of the year.

Hopefully it does really well and we get a sequel and more comic book movies with female leads.

Off to a good start, $100.5M domestically in its first weekend which surpassed their original forecasts

Yea, but Gal is way cuter than Heath! I would agree that those are the top two.

I like focusing on it against like things. Though it is important to keep note of breaking records set by female directors (etc), it also stands well just comparing it to *any* movie.

> $100M beats the bar set for it, which is great as it keeps up the positve press. It's doing really well internationally, hitting $122M.

It's the #6 June opening weekend (though it falls behind Man of Steel).

www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/weekends/month/?mo=06&p=.htm

And #16 in comic book movies isn't bad. I wished it did better, but it's not bad. being beaten out by Suicide Squad isn't great. OTH, there was a LOT of Hype for Suicide Squad, and then a fair amount of backlash. That backlash might have hurt Wonder Woman too as people might be fed up DC and not willing to take a chance opening weekend. I'm not getting much backlash from Wonder Woman. There have been some "it's ok" reviews, but most are "it's awesome!". (Not like the strongly mixed reviews of BvS and Suicide Squad.)

www.boxofficemojo.com/genres/chart/?id=c...ss&order=DESC&p=.htm

I've not really groked the "meh" reviews ... though I will admit that the special effects of the final battle being a weak point for me. But I wasn't too concertned with it. I was raised on Dr. Who, give me characters and plot and I'll paint over the bad cgi. (The CGI was the same in Man of Steel and BvS, if you liked it there, you'll like it in Wonder Woman.)

Anyway, it's a great movie and all here should see it! It's RIGHT up our alley.

Just FYI, final adjusted totals from BoxOfficeMojo have it raking it $103M its opening weekend, placing its opening (domestic) ahead of Iron Man, Captain America: First Avenger, and Guardians of the Galaxy! Still marveling at the fact that Suicide Squad took it $133M it's opening weekend.....wow!

My favorite scene in Wonder Woman? When Diana is trying on "modern" clothes she says: "How can a woman possibly fight in this?" A subtle dig at people who complain about the fantasy costumes Superheroines wear.

My personal favorite were Etta's replies to Diana, in particular: "We will get the right to vote one day."
I think it just showed the level of disconnection between those two worlds, but a willingness to try and find a common ground.

Has to be for me when Etta is explaining Etta's demanding role as working as Steve's secretary.

Diana;
"Where I'm from, that's called slavery" and Gal has an almost 'that is below us women' tone.

ETA, Steve embarrassingly ushering them away quickly trying to shoosh Diana makes the scene even better.

WW continues to do well in the box office with only a 45% drop (MoS/BvS/SS all had >=65% drop offs). It also beat the Mummy and won it's second weekend.

WW is tracking well against MoS. It's $5M short coming out of the second weekend, but MoS had another day of sales. WW is still behind SS about $17M, but it made more money last week and this weekend than SS did, showing that it has staying power. WW even pulled in more money than BvS did it's second weekend. Though BvS pulled in so much it's opening weekend it was sitting at $260M.

Currently WW has made $205M domestically and $230.2M in foreign markets. (I wonder how well it'll do in Germany when it opens there next week).

My guess is next week WW will add another $40M to it's total. My ideal is if it keeps going strong and eventualy nets more than MoS, SS, or BvS domestically. Adding to that is it was a cheaper movie to make than any of them, so if it comes close to the box office total, it'll have made more $$.

I suspect that Cars 3 will take top spot next week though. (Though the next movie I'm excited to see is Baby Driver.)

I still need to go see WW again.

This particular image was my favorite. The absolutely best Amazon picture I have ever seen, and its exactly as captured by the camera. Madeleine Vall Beijner and Brooke Ence (who has amazing shoulder and arm development) look exactly as I'd imagined Amazons.

WW staying strong at the box office domestically with > $221M in receipts as it closes its second week of full release. Eventhough the official results are only tallied through Tuesday, its pretty likely that WW will be in the top 25 of all superhero movies IN ONLY ITS SECOND WEEK.

Furthermore, it is showing some serious staying power with its second Monday and Tuesday (good barometer for a movie in its second week) totals being higher than almost ANY superhero movie, save for the really big ones like Avengers and Dark Knight.

It seems likely that Wonder Woman will crack the top 20 superhero movies of all time (domestically) by the end of the weekend, leaping ahead of all the X-Men movies, Dr Strange, Captain America: Winter Solider, and possibly the Amazing Spiderman!

And in terms of "action heroine" movies , it is 7th alltime now, with only Star Wars and Hunger Games franchise movies ahead of it. Pretty select company, indeed!

Man....Warner Brothers made a SERIOUS mistake in not locking up Patty Jenkins for a sequel.....

Amazing figures! I wonder if Gal Gadot has a stake in a share of the profits written into her contract?

Most probably not. Few actors in Hollywood command such power in their contracts. And I doubt Gadot, who prior to this, had not headlined a film, would be one of them.

It seems likely that Wonder Woman will crack the top 20 superhero movies of all time (domestically) by the end of the weekend, leaping ahead of all the X-Men movies, Dr Strange, Captain America: Winter Solider, and possibly the Amazing Spiderman!

Since we are talking analytics here, I have to say, for the sake of perspective and fairness, "all the X-men movies" were garbage and the genre wasn't as big back then as it is now. So its not hard to beat them.
Dr. Strange was a niche character at best, and CA: Winter Soldier was a sequal, so the novelty factor wasn't as much in effect.

Remember, Wonder Woman is a PREMIERE comic book icon, only superseded by Batman and Superman in comic book culture (and is the first lady of comics at that). We shouldn't really be surprised that she is posting high numbers. "Should they be higher?" is probably a more pertinent question.

Also, what we need to look at is WORLDWIDE gross. That is the bottom line. DC films seem to do really well domestically, but don't connect as well overseas. As an example, here is the breakdown for CA:WS and Dr. Strange, compared to Suicide Squad and BvS:

BvS:
Domestic: $330,360,194 37.8%
+ Foreign: $542,900,000 62.2%

= Worldwide: $873,260,194

Suicide Squad:
Domestic: $325,100,054 43.6%
+ Foreign: $420,500,000 56.4%

= Worldwide: $745,600,054

CA:WS
Domestic: $259,766,572 36.4%
+ Foreign: $454,497,695 63.6%

= Worldwide: $714,264,267

Dr. Strange
Domestic: $232,641,920 34.3%
+ Foreign: $445,076,475 65.7%

= Worldwide: $677,718,395

Notice that both Dr. Strange and CA made more overseas then Suicide Squad, and only made slightly less then SS overall. Same with BvS. The high domestic gross helped raise its overall figure, whereas overseas, it didn't really make that much more then CA: WS or Dr. Strange. Especially considering that BvS is the FLAGSHIP of the holy trinity. CA:CW, a more accurate comparison to BvS, and released same year, made double.

It seems like DC connects more with US audiences or they have a larger fan base in the US. Currently Wonder Woman is running at 50/50, so will interesting to see the final spread on that.

Having said all that, it is still some really nice figures for WW to be fair. My prediction is that it will finish up around the 600-650 mark (its currently on 453 as of June 13th). Which is a pretty good return on the 150 budget (plus 150 for marketing).

Man....Warner Brothers made a SERIOUS mistake in not locking up Patty Jenkins for a sequel.....

Or Jenkins was smart enough not to get locked down :P

Peace.

Those are great numbers, and it seems like it's got some staying power. I wonder if this is because it is drawing a slightly different audience (more women) than your usual super hero crowd, or if it's just simply because it has got good reviews.

My prediction is that it will finish up around the 600-650 mark

I love prediction games, and I'm an optimist by nature, but also because I think it does have good staying power I think it will do slightly better in the US market than Suicide Squad but slightly worse than that film worldwide. My guess is between 700 - 750 million mark. Either way a sequel is a must, surly.

Possible, but I think Suicide Squad has a couple of factors in its favor compared to Wonder Woman that pushed it to those levels (even though WW is a far superior film in every way).

The fan appeal of Will Smith is one, and the sex appeal of Margot Robbie is certainly another. Both featured prominently in the marketing and movie. Also, you had Jared Leto as The Joker (another seminal character, portrayal aside), so you had those fans drawn in. And David Ayer directing also lent it some heft.

It also had a more aggressive marketing campaign, imo.

I think it may be a hard task for WW to reach those levels, but certainly not beyond the realm of possibility given current tracking.

But hey, both are just guest-imates :)

Peace.

All positives for Suicide Squad I agree, however it wasn't released in China which is the second biggest market, which is the reason I think Wonder Woman will get close to the numbers posted by Suicide Squad, Either way I think the studio will be delighted with the end result whatever it turns out to be.
