I'm surprised that no one has talked about this, it looks good

But, since given her performance in X-Men Apocalypse (and that movie in general), I didn't have very high hopes for it, that' ain't saying much.
I'm not terriblly impressed by Sophie Turner -- but this is more of my reaction to her. Others seem to really like her. I can't place what I don't like about her, she does seem like a competent actress on GoT. Even on GoT I find her mostly un-interesting. I think this is partly due to her character in the first season (not her acting what she was asked to portray).
After watching the trailer I think there will be bad-ass action scenes.
I also think it won't hold a candle to the original Phoenix to Dark Phoenix saga ( but it'd be hard to capture in a single movie). Partly this is a story that takes time .. it was 36 issues .. .3 years ... in the comics (101-138, though she dies in 137). There are also some changes (making Xavier a little less honorable, something the comics themselves have done quite well since then too), and it seems like they're making the Phoenix power level always inante in her (rather than the mythos that surrounds the Phoenix entity in the comics).
This story seems more akin to the Scarlet Witcht story in the comics -- her powers are so vast her concious mind can't properly contain or control them. Jean Grey (before Pheonix) never had that problem.
I wonder if they'll acutally tell the ending the way that Jim Shooter forced them to in the comics (Jean Grey had to die because of all the evil things she did as Dark Pheonix.). In some ways that the power of the story, it ended in a hard comics death (until they brought Jean back. Again. And someone who looked like her to mary scott, and then brought back gain, and again. Oh wait, let's TIME TRAVEL and bring her back as a kid. *sigh*. But she stayed dead for awhile, and it was a good death.
I don't think it'll be Daredevil movie, turning on the of the best issues of Daredevil into a shitty movie (it should NOT have been first Daredevil movie). But I get a similar feel .. .they have had other X-men movies, but they really need to ramp up to this a bit more. I guess they laid the groundwork in Apocalypse but ... man that was a shitty movie. (And of course in the original x-Men movies but x-men 3 isn't very good. I think this one will be better than it at least.)
Mostly I have been absolutely underwhelmed by this movie up to this trailer where I see sparks of interesting and some good action scenes. I don't know (yet) if Sophie Turner can actually carry the movie. She SHOULD be able to, but X-Men Apocalpyse says otherwise. If I'd just seen this trailer I'd be more excited.
So, unlike just about every other comic book movie, I _might_ see this on opening night, or I might just ... wait. And see what the general buzz is (adjusting for internet idiots), and then decide if I should go.
Other opinions will of course vary, I just don't have any confidence in the movie, or the people doing X movies at Fox (this was done before the Disney deal).
I normally do not talk this long about things that I don't like. I see promise ... but I'm still on the skeptical side.

I second your take on Sophie Turner. Thorazine dull.

i see more people praising her than throwing shade. She is a competent actress.
though you wouldn’t know it from her previous portrayal of Jean Grey. I mostly blamed the environment not her ...
I don’t want to pick on her looks. She’s pretty but ive also never found her appealing. I’ve always looked at people oddly and part of that I’d how I take them. I didn’t like her S1 GoT character which she acted perfectly. But I didn’t find the character appealing so I don’t find her appealing either. Until she does something to change how I view her ... and her previous stint as Jean Grey didn’t do it.
even on GoT it’s only in the last season where she started to show promise. Not her fault ... it’s axtually to her credit.

On the subject of Sophie Turner, sure, shes an attractive enough woman, but her acting skills have yet to be seen. Maybe part of that is the material she is given to work with, but the trailer certainly doesn't change that for me.
With regards to the story, it just doesn't feel earned. The Phoenix Saga is an iconic event in the history of the X-Men comics. Nothing has been built up in the movie universe to justify it.
We don't know enough about these characters, and as such, care about these characters enough, to be invested in this story. Its DCEU syndrome all over again.
On the plus side, sure, there were some nice scenes of Jean manifesting her powers, but its really nothing that hasn't been seen before.
Peace.

Dark Phoenix isn’t a Marvel movie. It’s a Fox movie using licensed Marvel characters. They’ve made some good ones. The last one was bad bad bad (X-men Apocalypse). Now that Disney owns Fox those characters will be. Back under Marvel control.

Would guess that actors in CGI heavy scenes are filmed in a studio and unable to see all the CGI. A behind the scenes vid

How the movie handles that remains to be seen. Kikass's point about them not developing enough of her story previously to make the movie work is a valid one. However, the trailer suggests to me a narrower focus. They can just show her as being nearly omnipotent, and then focus the dramatic element of the movie on whether her power can be contained/controlled, whether that's by her own act of will or by a lot of help from outside. I suspect we'll see both.
Basically, she could destroy the world. Or she could play nice. Maybe she'll do a little of both.
