Being reported on some outlets now that Sydney Sweeney's role in the upcoming Madame Web film from Sony will be none other than Julia Carpenter, the second Spider Woman.

Agreed. I think previously it was pure speculation based on age and physical looks but it seems since they’ve wrapped principle photography that info is leaking and more outlets are picking up the “rumors”

She certainly could make a good Spider-Gwen based on her appearance. However, I have not kept too much up with the Marvel rumor mill so for all I know Spider-Gwen has been cast already.

Trailer  dropped today. It looks like madame web herself  might have superstrength  as well  as clairvoyance.

The characters are Madame Web, Julia Carpenter, Mattie Franklin, and Anya Corazon.

Mattie has been swapped, probably on the premise that since her character is the probably least known spider-female, nobody will care, and they'll score a virtue point. Fair enough.

It's too bad that Silk isn't in this instead (is she still getting her own series at some point?), or Mayday Parker (Spider-Girl) whose comic book run lasted 7 years and over 100 issues, so May could conceivably be considered the third most popular spider-female until Gwen.

I'm sure that Sony didn't expect The Marvels to do as badly as it did at the box office, and then have to ride the coattails of that failure. Because if you think about it, this is a rather similar premise to the Marvels: four female leads (no male lead to bring women to the theater), all connected by a mysterious force. So there is unfortunately the potential for Madame Web to tank the way that Morbius did, and just become a viral meme in a similar fashion. [If you look at the comments in the trailer, it's pretty much all "I love the part where...."]

However, the good aspect of this movie is that, unlike with the Marvels, whose costumes were kept fairly bland and loose with the purpose of discouraging our 'gaze', it's hard not to create a Spider-Suit that isn't super-tight and sexy. From the small glimpses in the trailer, it looks like the costumes of at least Julia and Mattie could be quite appealing, if not perhaps all four of them. And plenty of superpowered feats will go along with that, hopefully.

So that's a plus for the members of *all superheroine forums* (yup) because at the end of the day, we're all looking for beautiful and powerful superheroines to spring into action, and they're definitely going to do that in Madame Web. Let's see how it goes, and in the meantime, here's the trailer:
