Completely underwhelming.
Of course she saves the day in her first adventure with the crew.
They should have gone in another direction.
But as I said before they probably had long range plans for the Alara character and didn't want to rework all that.

That sounds right. Seth clearly wants the dynamic of a super-strong female Security chief on his show, but in the case of Alara, it was her doubts and insecurities, and how she dealt with them, that made her appealing. The point was that having super-strength doesn't make everyone confident.
Talla is going to have to develop her own story over time, which I hope is also appealing. I'm betting he'll stay with some aspect of the theme of vulnerability despite having great power.
