Full DC Universe Reboot (Along with the heroines)

14 Jun 2011 00:59 #23605 by argonaut
"Now!" shouted Fred.

Velma tugged at the rope. A net dropped from the ceiling. And the Anti-Monitor, tangled in its meshes, fell to the floor with a thunderous crash.

"Good work, gang!" said Fred. "And now let's see who the Anti-Monitor really is."

He pulled off the Anti-Monitor's rubber mask, revealing the bald head and goateed chin of ...

"Dan Didio?" the teenage sleuths chimed in unison.

"But you're, like, the co-publisher of DC Comics," said Shaggy.

"Yes," said Daphne. "Why would you want to destroy your own company?"

Dan Didio scowled. "Because! I wanted to be a comic-book writer, but I had no talent. The editors at DC told me my scripts were formulaic -- cliched. So I vowed revenge. Step by step, I climbed their corporate ladder until finally I was had the power to destroy the company that had scorned me. One pointless crossover event followed another. Each new continuity was more confusing than the last. I screwed with their most popular characters. And this reboot would have been the final blow -- a giant finger in the face of all their fans."

Pausing for breath, he glared at his captors. "And I would have gotten away with it, too -- if it hadn't been for you meddling kids!"

Remembers "Heroes Reborn"? That lasted all of a year before it was set back.

These changes aren't going to hold. The fans will rage, and DC will go back to normal before long.

Argo, you're a fething genius.

I really hope so, but "Heroes Reborn" was meant to be a temporary change, while this whole deal seem meant to last (at least for the moment).

Uh...I may have missed a post but does this mean that WW is going to get a new costume again?
Is the new costume which made international waves suddenly old?
Were the leggings in the comic meant to align with the leggings in the cancelled tv show?
Now that the tv show is done are the leggings off the table? Are we back to another new-new WW or ... I don't have an 'or' ....or actually I have about another 10...

And I'm not just a fan of the costume - are we set for a new 'attitude' again? Are we going to get Goddess? Vigilante? Kung-fu student? World War 2 artifact? Superman's equal? Merely stronger than average? ..... invisible jets?

And is continuity something they just ditch every time sales plummet?

I guess in short I'm asking if anyone knows where they're going with WW?

And do ye think Bobby is going to step out of the shower in two years time and have the whole lot reset back to now or even Zero-hour?

Maybe in a year or so they can announce that the relaunch took place on one of those 51 parallel Earths.

To anyone who cares.

I thought it was a little suspicious that they said there would be 52 issue #1's coming out. I came up with a brief conspiracy theory that each title would be set on a parallel earth and that the whole thing would last a month before they went back to the existing continuity.

Then I realized that no company would be so crazy as to pull such a bait and switch. But then I realized that this is DC we are talking about.

Captain, you read my mind! I bet the boys over at Zenescope are crying about this, NOT!

Remember when they had the artist draw SG as a more "normal" fat girl with Super UGG boots? What did that last, like six months? The free market has a very effective process of punishing mistakes like this!

Maybe I can make a couple bucks off of DC's idiocy by running a pool at SWM for when they throw in the towel on this.

The second cover shows her kicking some ass and let's be sincere, I was waiting her do this for a loooong time

Hardly original....when Michael Turner rebooted Supergirl in SM/BM, the first four issues of her book was her kicking ass against Teen Titans, Justice League, etc.

Don't get me wrong...will be exciting to see, but I'm failing to give the DCnU any credit for this "groundbreaking" idea of a "young, misunderstood teen suddenly coming to earth and being scared, distrustful and so powerful -- even more powerful than Superman"

The artist is doing a good job with her action poses, but if anything, I like the costume a little less now that it looks like the "red wedge" is slightly disconnected from the rest of her tunic.

Not bad... :)
But I find that as Powergirl, neck should not be hidden, it's not very sexy. :(

I think the bottom of the costume looks like she's wearing a giant red diaper.

Also, I think it's hard to cosplay. The picture you attached is great, but she's wearing stockings because the stupid boots are impossible to do in real life, the belt looks stitched on because there's no other way to make it work. If you're making it harder for sexy ladies to dress up as your character, you're doing it wrong.

Well, it's working....SO FAR -- early figures show over 200,000 orders for JLA #1, with 100K + for six other titles! Of course, I don't know how the other 45 titles did, but 900K+ for 7 titles is a shitload of book orders!

Put slightly into perspective, in March 2011 the number one spot was 114K with second place being 76K. You can see the March Sales rundown here: acomicbookblog.com/wp-content/uploads/20...comic-book-sales.jpg

Powergirl -- who we've been lamenting regarding its cancellation -- was hovering around 20K last I heard in Spring.

I'm sure the boost will subside -- probably substantially -- but if these numbers can hold even some of their teeth, there will be a lot of high-fives over at the WB/DC offices...

I read the JLA #1 issue... the good news is that the art is pretty good and the story line has potential. I won't give away too much here if you haven't read it, but I will share my one big stumbling block.

In this first issue, Batman, Superman and the Hal Jordan appear as fully formed, experienced superheroes who've been working in their own areas for some time. Batman in Gotham, Superman in Metropolis, etc. The government is seriously after Batman, employing special forces who have seemingly been after him for some time. He's a vigilante and, in their eyes, a bad guy. Superman appears to be viewed the same way.

In fact, it appears all the superheroes are eyed with extreme suspicion and even fear by the government.

Batman is aware of this Superman fellow, but they've never met. In fact, it appears the theme is that all these super types have been around for a bit but never met. Just like the stories, it appears that their history has been wiped out, as if they were the victims of some massive global amnesia.

I find that very hard to swallow. I could see them arriving on Earth or deciding to put on a costume and fight crime, origin stories, but the idea that they are fully engaged in their "craft" without having ever me each other is a big pill to swallow.

When Superman and Batman do meet, the question is "what can you do?" Like they don't have a clue.

However, its my guess that once you get past that leap of faith, and its a big one, the stories might be interesting. Watching how these vigilante bad guys form the JLA and try to become respectable.

That's a new spin and, if I'm reading it right, might be fun.

I liked Green Lantern's reaction when he realizes that Batman doesn't have any super-powers:

"Hold on a second ... you're not just some guy in a bat costume, are you? Are you freaking kidding me?!"
