My concept for a disaster/monster movie starring evil supergirls instead of a giant lizard. All the power of an atomic monster with the beauty of a Hollywood actress. This is not a superhero movie - no-one is coming to save the day from these beautiful monsters. This is a movie about trying to survive against impossible odds.

I would lie to say that I didn't consider this concept a couple of times, but I think there's one limit to it: empathy.
One of the things that makes a monster movie is that the disparity between the monster and the human is heightened by the creature's appearence: Godzilla isn't something human can reason with, nor fight against (unless you consider Pacific Rim). Would replacing the monster with a beautiful woman negate such effect? Enhance it? Or create a completely different result?

Still very nice picture.

And there's also the factor... well... dunno what would be the best way to call this factor, but it is discussed on this article of "Business Insider":

www.businessinsider.com/the-monsters-are...saster-movies-2014-5

If you want to know, this article was referenced on the TVTropes Film examples for "Darkness Induced Audience Apathy".

Long story short, we may think of the guys trying to survive the monster attack as dullards with lots of luck, but the alternative is them being dullards that get killed by the monsters--and the reason why they are "dullards" is to try and prevent audiences from getting heartbroken at the fact that they didn't made it.

OK, sure, people can logic away that they are characters and thus shouldn't care, but try to force them down that path one time too many and they will either not see the movie to avoid the pain or they will stop caring about the whole damn thing, even the stuff that should be exciting like Godzilla ripping the city a new one.

There is a reason why the monsters are inhuman, in looks and in scope: they stand in for crap like hurricanes and tsunamis and fires, and thus they don't give a crap about mankind any more than those disasters do, and they don't feel anything about killing a lot of humans just like those disasters do.

It's a nice concept, it's a VERY nice poster, but I can sincerely say that if a project like that was ever actually greenlighted by a mainstream film producer it would be box office poison because the common denominator of movie target audiences don't particularly like to see sadist psycho-bitch superwomen killing their way through entire cities, totally (and that is TOTALLY) unstoppable, either doing the carnage with the mechanical unfeeling visage of a Terminator or looking like they are wetting themselves with every kill (and if they looked like THAT while taking out a kid, even if the kid was a serious "twat" before it happened, the project is probably gonna get shit-canned right then and there) or looking pissed on every scene (again, if they are looking like they were slapping a pretty annoyed mosquito out of the air while taking out a kid, project is going to die).

Thinking of this, it probably could fly as some kind of satire in the vein of "Mars Attacks", and it would need a lot of avoiding the typical "superwomen rampage" cliches, because many of them would render this unfilmable.

Just goes to show that we are a... pretty select... group.

And I'm sorry about the rant, but this is my first post on this place, and I wanted it to be meaningful (well... somehow).

I have no doubt that if it ever got made, as described, it would be a box-office disaster of Ishtar-like proportions. Also, critically reviled. Possibly banned in some countries. Nobody involved would ever work in Hollywood again.

I just want to see it, though!

I mean, Battlefield Earth got made, somehow.

Maybe I should start a cult...

I do think this could make an intresting movie-but its a tricky premise for one.

The nature of horror destruction movies is that there are three acts-the setup, the action, the concluion. Godzilla(lets go with the original) is a great example of this. there are three acts. In the first act we start with flashforwards to after hes attacked showing the devistation hes caused with our main character a reporter. Then we flashback meet more characters get are kinda love triangle story going, all the while hearing vauge stories of destruction somewhere-then our main character goes to a mysterious island where he after a werid ritual scene finally sees Godzilla in an effective scene. This is the first act.

Then we get about 10 minutes of characters talking about what they should do-before well godzilla attacks japan. This is largely the second act broken up by intresting sequences where we get very somber story about people wailing at the wind as various military characters try various things to stop him-all of which fail.

THe third act one of the peices of the love triangle devolps a device that can kill godzilla and the last act is largely devoted to getting that in place and by killing godzilla and the scientist and the movie ends with the reporter sad that he had to die.

Thats the movie. One thing you will notice is: there are a lot of characters in this movie who are not godzilla. Almost all Kaiju movies have a lot of human characters in them, and the more sucseful ones i feel are the ones who sucseed a little bit at making you care for them. Yeah theres the Gamera movies with there "kenny" kid characters, but there is almost always a story that tries to to make you care about them around it. the 2015 Godzilla movie did this. Pacific Rim really did this. Cloverfield was all this.

Which is a ways to say that for a movie like this to work-its not enough that you list 10 bueatiful women say there from venus and there here to destroy us-you well have to give us more characters then that.people to stop them, fight them, maybe loose maybe win. You have to give them compelling stories and hopes and desires even if its like the remake and say "i just want to get home to my family". I don't think you need to create superheros-but you need to create heros.

It also has to be more then 90 minutes of hardcore destruction-you need well a beggining middle and ending to the story.

And agian i think you can do this-you have a good poster image-its not like you ever see what i am talking about in a godzilla in poster-its always the gman looking fierce-but a little more thought in the credits is important.

And a good one at that, exploring both the fear and adulation with which ordinary people may regard a superheroine, and the limits and fears it imposes on the heroine as well. Yet it does all this without getting bogged down in the usual tropes.

As always with Disney, it ends in glorious triumph. The goddess-like power of the heroine solves all problems -- after she threatens to kill (freeze) everyone and has to embrace who and what she truly is and discovers her true power for good.

The most perfectly written and performed superheroine movie ever? Possibly.

Oh... and there is some music too.... <grin>

Great disguise indeed.

Speaking of 90's capes and reference to the other thread on displaying power,

I've always thought this image from the 90's is one of the best images ever to project raw power.

Those blocks probably weigh half a ton each.
They are going to fall on her.
She doesn't care.
She's too busy making her point.

When the crashing ends, she'll be standing half buried in the the blocks, only to shrug them off like they were mere pillow. Or so I see the end of the scene. .
