I've written a new story featuring Naomi Kim'Vallara, the Velorian ambassador on Riegel 5. It's part of the Other Velorians timeline which Brantley and I often write about.
This story was inspired by watching the first Riddick movie, Pitch Black, and is my attempt to create a more interesting villain who isn't always bad, and to create an adventure that tests Naomi to the limit. It also explores the concept of blind justice, and the way it must be upheld to keep the forces of darkness away.
It's got lots of action in the last half, including the arrival of a fierce Kintzi, along with its pack dogs, the fearsome Bonzai. To depict that faithfully, I've dipped back into a writing style I often used back in the AU3 days.
In the end, I've tried to show that heroes and villains are not what they seem at first. But that despite everything, heroism is one of the enduring traits of the human race.
