I probably came to this genre a completely different way than most here. I didn't read comics or graphic novels. I've seen many of the Marvel movies and a few episodes of the Supergirl show, I might even see the latest Avengers movie here soon! (Yes, I seriously haven't seen it yet! Don't make fun of me!)

The primary way I've experience superwomen contest is through reading novels. I've actually started a list of books that I update on occasion as I think of books I've read that have content similar to what you might find in my stories.

Some of them might be a little girly for this crowd, but I think that you'll find some of them enjoyable.

If I had to recommend just one, I would recommend  The Final Empire   by Brandon Sanderson. If you like unique fantasy books, I think you will like that one. Vin (a girl) is my hero. :)

I'll second that recommendation. I love the Mistborn books!

And I'm writing a female superhero novel series that is character-driven and might be deemed "girly" by some here. No dishonor there!

Here's one I read (not mine) that was corny but I enjoyed it, Confessions of a Super Mom.

I liked the Weregirl trilogy. Sort of a (female) werewolf-as-superhero

And here's my series, Ms. Infinity, with 2 books so far:
