An idea for some avatar fun was created by shadar
Here's a thought for a quick little group project here the doldrums of summer (or winter, if you're down under):

How about we each write a very short story (a vignette really) that features our avatar character in action. In other words, portraying our avatar picture as a snapshot taken from that story.

You could post your vignettes as replies to this topic, given your avatar will be displayed right there in the reply. Or the Moderators could maybe set something up if there is enough interest.

My Avatar comes from the first story I ever wrote for AC Comics FermForce with art done by Andre St'Amour
Which turned out to be my second story published
"Nosey"

You can read the full story in AC Comics FemForce 162

That's a good start, and great evidence for why its your avatar (really great!), but does it make sense to try and put together a very short  (and new) story that features your avatar?

I'm trying to encourage some more writing (in tiny bits) outside the contest scenarios.

I've got a short story going regarding my avatar that I should post later today to show kind of what I was thinking about.

For what its worth...

“Was that screaming to the east?” Melinda thought to herself. As she focused on the sounds around her she pulled her hair off her ears and pitched her head to the north closing her eyes. With sound waves not being much different than electricity her ability to manipulate energy fields came in handy in the form of super human hearing as well.

[“It’s out of control!!” ]
[“Is the driver dead?!” ]

“The light rail is two blocks away!” Melinda thought while simultaneously scanning her surroundings for a private spot. “I can hear the doppler and it’s coming from the north, and fast.”
Melinda darted down an alley and stepped under a freight dock overhang. After confirming no one had a line of site she removed the civilian clothes that were covering her stylized “M” and skirt. Her yellow boots and cape came out of a bottom compartment of her Louis Vuitton attaché case.

[“It’s going to derail!!”]

[“Screeeeeeecccccccchhhhhh!”]

At super speed her boots and cape were on and her alter ego clothes were stuffed neatly into her case.
Mindy Marvel was ready for action.

Taking one more glance around she moved at super speed from under the overhang to throw off any drones or satellites. She deftly tossed her case to the warehouse roof, took two steps, and jumped. The tone in her thighs and calves only gave away a fraction of their power as she left the ground.

[“Heeelllllppp!”]

The train tracks were close enough flight powers were not required. She had judged her jump just right and landed between the tracks in front of the rocking and speeding four car train. She didn’t have time to understand the source of the problem, only enough to save lives before the train rocked out of its tracks.

[Zap] [Crackle] [ZZZZt]

Mindy could feel electrical charges in the air as the train was now rocking side to side so violently the pantograph was separating from the overhead wire arching electricity. Focusing she created a resistance bubble around her to disable the power in the overhead lines to the train.

The train with all its momentum was getting closer quickly. Mindy looked behind her. She only had 60 meters to a road crossing and a curve after that. She planned to use the full 60 meters to slow the train and reduce the injuries on board. To Mindy the only thing worse than screams of terror were screams of pain. She took a breath, steeled her muscles, and put up a hand to meet the train. She hoped at least some of the people on the train could see she was there to help ease their terror, give them hope, and so they would brace themselves. She didn’t want the train to hit a brick wall, her, she just needed to be ready to create a controlled slow down so she lighted the weight on her feet.

The last half second before impact moved in slow motion for Mindy Marvel. Onlookers had noticed her presence. The trains shadow covered her. The air rushing in front of the train pushed her hair, skirt, and cape back. The front trucks on the front car jumped and left the tracks. Mindy Marvel felt the trains front cowling touch her outstretched finger tips and begin to deform.

Well in my case... my avatar is the main character on my site, so she has a ton of stories/words describing her.

Just Hannah, up in the clouds, possibly considering embracing the reality that she might be God.

... she just cant seem to remember creating the universe. Did she? Should she take the throne? Is it hers?

Most people avoid standing on the same side of the street with them, when Frank is walking his evil looking hulk of a wolfhound. Frank's the only one Caesar would at least pretend to obey. But that careless girl - he is taken away by her casual unintended beauty so much that he has no time to react, when she just kneels and pets the dog's head. The infuriated beast's jaws lock on her arm like a vice. The girl just laughs - come on, you're a good boy ain't ya? The dog is confused, and Frank can swear there's no single mark on the girl's skin. The girl takes a pause for a welcome and hugs the dog's mighty chest.
"No!" shouts Frank, but it's too late. The enraged dog bites again, this time with a conscious intent to harm. But as it tries to tear her throat, her face, Frank just hears her giggle. "Hey, pal, you're tickling". And there again, he sees no mark on her.
"What's his name?" the girl gets up to look into Frank's face. At this moment, the dog just bites into her crotch. "Hey," she takes it's muzzle away from her, gently, but with a determination. Which looks wierd, again, because the girl doesn't look harmed by the attack, and also because there dog seems to be counteracting her gesture with all it's might, but it's fruitless. Frank imagines it takes wrestling world champion's both hands to hold Caesar's head like that, not a casual single handed gesture of a girl.
Finally the dog's pointless rage whithers, as the girl just keeps hugging the dog gently. It calms down, as if it's evil heart melts in her arms.
Frank swallows. "Your..." The girl follows his eyes and notices tears in her top, a huge nipple shamelessly piercing the ruined surface of her jeans top. For a few long seconds, she won't move, meeting his jumping gaze and throwing a curve of a smile into the side of her mouth. "Thanks", she finally pulls the poor piece of cloth down a bit, which makes it all just a bit more socially acceptable.
"Are you okay?" "Sure, it's just clothes." "You're unharmed, how can this be? ... And I'm sorry, can I buy you a new top and ... " Frank doesn't even dare to fix his eyes on her shorts.
"That would be nice. I'm Michelle. And you?"

There's a bunch of jobs out there for a superheroine. A shrink for your dog or tiger pet (some keep those), would you folks risk that job? Neighbourhood's saying Caesar is a different dog now. Best kid's friend, you know.

Mae had always been good at using her shapeshifting to please those around her. She’d gotten increasingly proficient at that now she was here on Earth, especially given that her mentor, Lex Luthor, had many tastes in women, all of which she could fulfill.

Lex was teaching her to think and feel like a human, and he’d convinced her that by assuming the form and emulating the personality and speech of historical celebrities, she could better learn what it meant to be a woman. Given she was created in a lab and lacked any kind of a childhood, she hadn’t learned any of the things a natural person did while growing up.

But it pleased her the most when she assumed the form of the last members of the Kryptonian race. Superman and Supergirl were only a memory now, but she could keep their memories alive by becoming what they had once been. Superman sometimes, but she greatly preferred being female, and she admired the memory of Kara Zor El above all. She liked having people watch her when she did the amazing things Kara had once done, and her sense of pride grew every time she impressed someone new.

Standing now in the darkness of Lex’s penthouse bedroom, her eyes fluttered as she concentrated on morphing. The tall, voluptuous figure and waist-length blonde hair of Lex’s passion for last night — the mythical character named She-Ra — melted away to reveal a younger woman wearing a skintight blue leotard with a very short triangular red skirt and a long red cape. That and a pair of red boots.

Lex was still sleeping when she floated off his balcony, tensing long legs that were now Kryptonian strong. She channeled their massive power into flight, and seconds later she was climbing nearly vertically at many times the speed of sound, her hair and cape flattened to her slender body by the intense shockwaves. Above her, the sky darkened and turned black as stars appeared, and moments later hard vacuum began tugging at her insides as she began to coast in space. The lack of gravity and zero pressure made her breasts feel fuller and higher. Less comfortable was her bloated stomach. She soundlessly belched up some air, with other orifices joining in, as her empty lungs briefly sent a pang of breathless panic through her body. All part of being in hard vacuum.

She pushed those uncomfortable feelings away. As a Kryptonian, she didn’t need to breathe, but it had become a habit. She turned her attention instead to the spectacular view from hundreds of miles up into space, her hair and cape floating weightlessly around her. She watched the Earth slowly rotate beneath her, making it appear that she was motionless and it was the planet that was moving. Now that she’d adjusted to hard vacuum, it felt good to be out here. So quiet. So peaceful. So alone. She wondered not for the first time if she should visit the other planets. Or even another star.

She was looking straight down on Japan when she began to slow, which caused her angle of descent to steepen. She came in fast, her aerobraking enveloping her in a layer of ionized air so hot it would have melted mere steel. But it could not harm a young woman who had learned the mysteries of Kryptonian DNA, and had duplicated that code. If Superman and Supergirl were still alive, she had no doubt that she could hold her own against them, even without her now muted TK powers.

But it hadn’t been that way at the start. When she’d first met Superman, she was only a poor copy of a Kryptonian, and had mostly used her native telekinetic power to approximate his powers. It had taken her time to learn the nuances of Kryptonian DNA and to emulate it faithfully at a cellular level. But it had been worth it.

She smiled as the hypersonic shockwaves tickled her sensitive nipples, deciding for the hundredth time that these feelings were one of the really good things about being Kryptonian. Her sense of feel and touch were far greater now than what she’d experienced while morphing into merely human forms. It was equally exciting that most people thrilled to see her, many of them still longing for the now dead Kryptonians who had once adopted and protected Earth. That was her job now, with Lex’s help.

She dove at supersonic speed until the ground rush began, and then flipped over to descend feet first, her cape and long hair streaming above her as she slowed, her skirt lifting to reveal the blue bottom of her leotard. She came to a hovering stop two meters above the ground, directly in front of an arch that had been formed in a huge wall made from two-ton blocks of stone.

The thousands of people in the gathered crowd ducked as the remains of her powerful shockwave blasted them, all eyes turning towards her as she stood with her legs gently spread, her hands on her hips, assuming the powerful pose that the original Supergirl had made famous.

As arranged, two shooters with high-powered rifles sat at bench rests fifty meters in front of the crowd. They aimed carefully, focusing their crosshairs just to the right and left of the “S” on her chest as directed. She’d learned that bullets would ricochet dangerously from Kryptonian muscle and bone, but her breasts were perfectly constructed to dimple when struck, her softest flesh absorbing the bullet’s energy before plunking the spent round harmlessly to the ground.

She had drawn derision from some feminists for showing off this way, some of whom called her “Luthor’s pet”, but others had applauded her for proving the superiority of the female body. Others were intimidated by her raw display of power, while some found it wildly sexy. There were slow-motion videos of her being shot all over the Net.

Mae herself had no idea why people reacted in so many different and often extreme ways. This was simply a practical and safe way to demonstrate her bulletproof nature, and it was always a great crowd pleaser.

The shooters enthusiastically went about their work, firing their large caliber rifles, the powerful impacts making dull thumps that sent her hair and cape flying. Mae closed her eyes and enjoyed the pleasant dimpling from bullets that would have put a charging rhino down, her nipples engorging as the bullets teased them. She didn’t think of it as sexual, merely sensual, but her Kryptonian body had other instincts, and she had to resist the urge to morph the top of her costume away to feel the bullets more intimately. As it was, by the time the ground in front of her was littered with spent bullets, she felt warm and needy and more than a little tingly inside.

The shooters eventually ran out of ammunition. Now it was time for her very brief speech, which she delivered in a lovely voice that was as loud as a PA system. Per Lex’s coaching, she talked about how this new LexCorp factory was going to provide jobs as it demolished the competition. And then, to emphasize her last point, she extended her arms to push the huge blocks to the side, collapsing the arch and the walls to fall in on top of her.

The two-ton blocks rumbled and roared as they fell, shaking the ground violently. When it was over, everyone stared wide-eyed at the pile of huge stone blocks, knowing the pretty girl in primary red and blue with the yellow hair was buried somewhere beneath them all. Seconds passed, and then one block flipped outward from the pile, then another, and moments later she emerged, her blonde hair looking wild, her cape wound around herself, her body covered in dust.

She rose to shake herself at ultrasonic speed to send the dust flying, and then floated over to land in the middle of the crowd. Standing as tall as any man, she shared handshakes with many of them, her grip strong enough to be memorable but not painful, except for a few men who challenged her to a contest of strength. They left with bruised hands. Men and women handed her blocks and chunks and balls of steel which she casually twisted, squished and shaped into valuable souvenirs before handing the warm steel whatevers back to them.

A group of teenage boys asked to see her muscles, and she flexed her arm for them, proving beyond any doubt that Kryptonian muscle expands far more than human. One of the boys wrapped both his hands around her remarkably large bicep to discover what Kryptonian steel really felt like, which defied Lex’s mandate to not let anyone actually touch her.

Other hands found her now, some impolitely, enough that she had to rise above the crowd. Feeling proud and confident of her powers, and assured of her invulnerability, she performed an exotic aerobatic routine over the crowd that ended with her flying a tight loop around the periphery of the crowd at supersonic speed. She was little more than a red and blue blur as she lashed the crowd with her shock wave, creating a suitably fire-workish finale for the show.

Satisfied that she’d done her job, Mae raced upward and back into space, once again adjusting to the hard vacuum. Her only thought now was to fall back into Lex’s arms, but this time as Supergirl. Lex was always hot after watching one of her demonstrations, and he liked it most when she wore a sexier version of this costume to bed. This man she loved had taught her the joys of being a woman.

And thanks to her help, Lex had brought peace to most of the Earth. LuthorCorp now ruled every country and controlled every economy — a dream of global peacemaking he’d inherited from his father and grandfather. With Mae at his side, he could do anything. Everything.

If not for the growing Opposition, which she didn’t understand, it would have been nirvana.

By the way, in my vignette on Matrix/Mae, I'm using an "unreliable narrator technique.. Basically, the narrator knows only what Mae knows.

You'll see the effects in several places, but most strongly at the end, where a reliable narrator would have used "global domination" and not "global peacemaking".

Lex has a very dangerous weapon under his control. A weapon who doesn't know she's one.

Shadar - I never would have thought your avatar would lead to a story about the ultimate corporate ground breaking dog and pony show lead by a manipulated super-being. Thanks!

Sidd - I loved the idea of a dog endlessly frustrated by it's invulnerable super-powered chew toy. That's a great one that until I figure out animatronics or 3D puppeting will be one for the imagination.

When I first picked that avatar, I didn't have much of a story. I knew Mae was Luthor's pet in the comics during that period, and he had her showing off frequently. All part of increasing his personal power. And I liked the image.

But when I challenged myself to put a story together, I remembered all those corporate dog and pony shows I'd been a part of. Back when my company at the time used to put on Comdex shows in Vegas back in the 90's. I was living and working in LA. Our CEO, who was dug in deep with Hollywood and the general parade of "talent" looking to get into the movies,  would hire drop-dead gorgeous women to decorate our booths and to work the private suites. So did a lot of other companies, although they mainly drew from Vegas talent.

Anyway, we trained the lovelies to know enough about our products to demonstrate them and for the rest of us to decide if they'd reeled in someone we wanted to talk to. What went on the in the private suites was even more "demonstrative", given the women he hired liked the idea of getting up close and personal with Tech executives who made ridiculous amounts of money. Those geeks, with insane amounts of money, often displayed astoundingly bad judgment when it comes to women like that. Most of the men had grown up as antisocial nerds who never dated, and suddenly (in that place and time) they were gods, and it went to their heads.  It wasn't pretty. But the women sure were.

I was just a tech guy who was there to talk technology with anyone who was interested, and all this extracurricular stuff was above my pay grade. But it was amusing as hell to watch. There were some astoundingly attractive women out there, dressed exotically, and they unknowingly served as inspiration for many of my 90's stories.. Velorians, indeed.

So I figured it would be fun to show a shapechanging Kryptonian wannabe under the thumb of Lex Luthor, and thinking she was helping save the world, when in reality she's just being exploited to support his own nefarious goals.

As I see it, Mae grows up and eventually realizes what she is to Luthor, and decides to get revenge. But that's the bigger story that I may write.

Okay, this is really a bit out of the ordinary.

There are few jobs harder and more taxing than being an elementary school teacher in June. The heat, the sun, the feeling that summer is just beyond the next corner wreak havoc on any attempt to keep kids even remotely quiet. Mr. Schwarz leaned back on his chair trying to relax a bit, he squinted hard trying to put the clock over the classroom door into focus.
‘14:45… the calm before the storm.’ he thought to himself. He wasn’t looking forward to today’s parent-teacher meeting. He grabbed the paper on the desk and quickly skimmed through the notes about Mrs. Prince’s little girl… she was very much a perfect pupil – bright, dedicated, funny – but she was also… problematic. The old man scratched his receding hairline twice trying to find a way to explain it.
A knock at the door snapped him out of his thoughts. He patted the desk looking for this tortoise shell glasses. “Come on in.”
Mr. Schwarz had meet Mrs Prince only a couple of times so far, but she wasn’t easy to forget. By his recollection she was roughly 50 years old – in a previous occasion she said that she “came very late into motherhood” – but there was just no real sign of it, except for a few grey streaks in her long black curls. She stood about 185 cm, perfectly squared shoulders, no slouch whatsoever, and had a figure that women half her age would kill for.
“Mr. Schwarz?” she inquired with a smile and extending her hand.
As expected she had a really firm handshake: “Ah… yes… welcome, Mrs. Prince, please have a seat.”
“I hope this is not a big problem.”
“Well… yes and no. Your daughter is a remarkable girl. I dare say, she is one of our finest pupils.” Mr Schwarz pushed a sheet of paper forward, “Her grades are nothing short of excellent, but…”
“But?” Mrs Prince looked at him over her heavy framed glasses.
“…but she seem to have a knack for trouble.” he sighed, “every time there is a disturbance in this school, your daughter is never far away. I’m not suggesting that she is responsible, but she ofte—”
“HEEELLLLPPPP!!!”
Before Mr Schwarz could even rose from his chair, Mrs Prince was already out of the door. He scuttled across the hallway, trying to keep up with the amazonian mom in front of him. She rushed away and slammed open the main doors that led to the courtyard. About two dozen children, none older than 9, were laughing at a rather puzzling scene: a little dark-haired girl in red and blue stood at the top of the jungle gym cage, keeping – without any apparent effort – an older kid (probably 11) dangling by his ankles.
Mr. Schwarz turned and looked at Mrs Prince, but before he could say anything, she strode across the courtyard.
Lynda Stephanie Prince! Come down this instant!” she roared.
The girl looked down and turned first red then pale. Without letting the big kid go, Lynda jumped from the jungle gym and gracefully landed in the sandbox.
“Now, I think you have some explaining to do but, first, let him go.”
The old kid crawled away.
Mrs Prince turned to Mr Schwarz: “Is this the kind of trouble we were talking about?”
The teacher wiped his forehead and tried to keep an modicum of self-control: “Not quite, I believe.”
Without a word, Mrs Prince grabbed her daughter’s hand and dragged her back into the school, Mr Schwarz followed silently.
Back into the class Mrs Prince exploded: “What in ades were you thinking? Did you forget the rules?”
Lynda looked sheepishly at her feet: “But mom…”
“No but. What are the rules?”
“Mom…”
“Rules! Now!”
“Respect my teachers. Never talk to strangers.” Lynda counted on her fingers, “Never use my powers unless absolutely necessary. Never play ‘Truth or Dare’ using the Lass—”
“That’s enough.” Mrs Prince sighed.
Lynda looked her mom straight in the eyes. They both had the most amazing dark blue, almost black, eyes. “Mom, Jesse was stealing everybody’s lunch money… I had to do something.”
For the first time Mrs Prince seemed at a loss of words, then a little cough from Mr Schwarz broke the apparent impasse. He gesture to Mrs Prince to come over and told her, in a really hushed tone: “I don’t mean to intrude, but it seem to me that your daughter has the heart in the right place, maybe you should…”

Nice little vignette, Woodclaw I really enjoy stories about the kids of superheroes and the challenges of growing up with powers. Little Lynda in this story is clearly already working on saving the world, starting with playground bullies Good practice for the adult bullies she'll someday face. .

As far as Mrs. Prince looking a well-preserved 50... I didn't think WW ever aged?  At least that's my interpretation of her background. I mean, she's like how many thousands of years old?

Of course, the power of writing a story is that we get to use (or ignore) anything we want.

Is this a story that has longer legs, or is this just going to remain a vignette? You've given us a nice taste of what could be.

I don't think this will go much further, first of all my curretn avatar is from an ongoing webcomic called JL8 (formerly Little League), which already chronicles the adventures of some Dc characters (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Powergirl) as 8 years old kids. Second, this is actually a piece I wrote with other characters in mind and adapted for the occasion.

“And this is the exercise room,” Nicola announced as she leadthe assembled journalists into the next part in their tour of 'Supergirls Aloud's
headquarters. “Were like to spend our free time working out as much as possible
to make we all stay in top physical condition.” Nicola explained with a friendly
smile. The group (at least those able to tear their eyes away fromNicola’s incredible muscle bound body) stared in amazement at the massive
machines around them, which looked like they belonged in a scrap yard or some
industrial plant. Alongside the giant hydraulic presses, crushers and rams were
huge barbells with bars thicker than most people's legs and massively over
sided weight discs as big as of tractor tires. “How much does this one weigh?” one of the less overwhelmed journalistsmanaged to ask, pointing to a gigantic circus style dumbbell with spheres a
meter and a half in diameter. “That little thing? Oh only 25 tonnes.” Nicola casually
told the press man, before stunning him by walking over and easily picking up
the absurdly large weight. “It's just for warm ups.” Nicola lifted the ridiculously
large lump of metal over her head with one arm muscle bound (pulling her skimpy
workout top even tighter across her generous breasts) while casually flexing
her other one. An amused smile crossed Nicola's lips as she watched the mixture
of amazement, arousal and fear in the group as her bicep swelled higher than her
wrist, showing off her power like this never got old!
