Help me test a new feature

Help me test a new feature was created by fats
Hi all,

As part of the upcoming art contest I’ve been set the challenge of coming up with a way for people to vote that is different from the way we voted before.

Previously we voted in a one vote per person which is great when there is a small number of possible entries but we are looking at this time at a possible 30 yes you read that right 30 entries.

So the idea is that people rank the top 3 entries and the winner is the one with the greatest number of votes, the problem is the current voting software will not allow us to do that so I’ve had to look outside the box and look at alternative software to dot he poll, and the possible solution is limesurvey.

It's giving us the possible solution but I need people to try it out and tell me if it works and what they think.

So if people can take a minute and try out the survey at the link below we can see if this will work or not.

www.superwomenmania.com/survey/index.php...x/sid/787394/lang/en

I'll post the results after a week has passed, please do not take the survey seriously, but complete the question, this is to test the software.

Please post your views in this thread.

Thanks in advance

I dragged three titles from the list on the left to create a list in the right column, with my #1 choice first etc. But when I clicked on "Submit," I was told to rank the three titles -- which I thought I had done by their order on my list.

Are rankings even necessary if you're simply counting the total number of votes each artwork receives? Or will you be giving #1 choices more weight than #2 choices, and #2 choices more weight than #3 choices?

It worked well, just to much choice, I had a hard time narrow that list to just 3 options. But I don't know if it would have been any easier with just a one vote system either so, sorry for for this rambing post.

Works, but getting the ranking in order was a pain. I took my three selections out in the order I wanted them to be in, 1 2 3, and they showed up in the list as 3 2 1, and then moving them around to get them to be 1 2 3 was a real pain as I said. But still, it works.

Worked fine this time.

It seems to really want to put my current selection at the top of the list, but I was able to get it to go elsewhere with a bit of effort.

Third time's the charm. I completed the survey.

Still wondering whether rankings will count. Will the three artworks I vote for receive 1 vote each, or will the votes be weighted by ranking? A simple system would be to give each voter's #1 choice 3 points, with 2 points for his #2 choice and 1 point for his #3 choice.

Or each voter might be allowed to assign 6 votes however he wants. If he really digs one artwork, he can give it all 6 of his votes. If he has three favorites that he likes equally, he can give each of them 2 points. Maybe you could even allow him to vote for as many as six entries, giving each of them 1 vote.

Fats, thanks for the work you're putting into this (and, of course, for everything else you do to keep the site going).

And just following up on what a couple of others have noted: The system appears to rank your choices from the bottom up (placing the second title you drag over on top of the first), but a little more dragging sorts things out.

It worked well for me in IE11 on Windows 8.1

I even found the sorting after selection logic straight forward.

Fats if you have a moment - if you could point me to where you found this [assuming it's semi canned] - I might be able to make good use of this in a web resource in my day job.

hi all,

firstly thanks to all who has replied to this thread and informed me of issues and problems your help has been invaluable.

the software that I’m using is a free programme called limesurvey you can get it at limesurvey.org I just wanted to throw that in as I’ve used paid survey software in the past and it's been good but not great, this free software beats the others hands down, so if you are running a site and need some survey software then use it you wont regret it.

I've produced a simple chart of the results and it's OK but nothing special. I might do another survey in September to test more features and stuff, we'll see.

Again thanks to all the people who have replied to the survey and here is the results

First, thanks for the work you've put into this. But ...

The chart' is hard to interpret. For example, there are three yellow wedges. Two of them represent stories that got 9% of the vote and one of them represents a story that got 4% of the vote. But as far as I can see, there's no way of telling which of the stories marked with a yellow dot got what percent of the vote. And to add to the confusion, there are FOUR stories marked with yellow dots. Presumably one of them got no votes, but which? The story that got the most votes (13%) has a dark green wedge, but three stories on the list are marked with a dot of that color.

I hope there are alternatives for showing the results of the artwork voting. Something like the horizontal bars used for the story workshops would be my preference.

I like the ambiguity tbh...I can pretend my crap stories got more votes!

But seriously, I think if the colour blocks were bigger it would easy to tell them apart.

it's been about 10 years since i've done charting so i can understand the issues posted, i'm used to office but with libreoffice the difference is huge.

i'll attach the ods file so that if anyone wants to have a play around they can.
