Experiment: Caption This !
The links below take you to a bit of experimental software for creating cartoon captioned photos, developed by myself. It requires a fairly recent browser, and probably functions best on a desktop/laptop rather than a tablet. It works without the need of any plugins. The software is brand new, and still very much in beta mode, so it needs a bit of testing.
Give it a try, and post your best efforts on this thread.
I've chosen five images for you all to experiment on...
West Twins
Supergirl
Car crash
Supergirl comes a-knocking
Power grab
The user interface should be easy to figure out, but here's some basic instructions...
Tab 1 (picture icon)
This is for providing information about the cartoon project -- the image, how it should be sized, a title for your cartoon (used as a filename when you save), and your credit. Note: because these a pre-chosen competition images, you won't be able to change the image or its size.
Tab 2 (speech bubble icon)
This is the heart of the action. The Bubbles controls allow you to add a new speech bubble, delete the current bubble, or move the current bubble forward of backward in the layered order of bubbles. The Text controls allow you to change the bubble's text, and its font face, font size, and text alignment. The Style controls allow you to style the current bubble: its shape (oval/shock/cloud/box), the type of stalk (point/bubbles/invisible), its colours, where the stalk is attached (anchor), its line thickness, and the number of segments on cloud and shock bubbles.
Tab 3 (Download icon)
This allows you do save or load your project to your browser's offline storage, export or import your project to a file, or (importantly!) generate a JPEG image of your current project. Clicking the thumbnail will cause the image to save to a file.

On the third tab there are three sections: Load / Save Projects, Import / Export Project, and Export Image.
The first section saves the project as a type of cookie on your browser, in an area known as Local Storage. You should see a list of the projects you've saved underneath the [SAVE] button, using the Title as the 'filename'. Just click the entry to reload it (or the little X to delete it.) Do you see your saved projects listed?
To save the final image, click the [GENERATE] button under the Export Image section. A thumbnail will appear below the button. Clicking that thumbnail will prompt you to download the full sized file.
Update: As always, Interner Explorer is being a pain in the rear, thanks to its lagging support for HTML5 and JavaScript standards. Some fixes are being worked on, and will be available soon. Chrome and Firefox will likely always offer the best experience, however.

It is saved to my hard drive as a .json file
I tried to upload the image to this thread.
Superwomenmania will not accept that extension.
What next?

You should use the "Export" command on the third tab to make them into .jpg files. The .json files are only good to reupload them into the editor.
