Damn it! Beat me too it! I checked before I hit submit! ;-)

I think I'm going to like it bunches.

And things for people here -- some super strength feats and her talking about them with Cage. Looks to be really nice and dark, and more than a bit of focus the Purple Man.

Looks great....hoping they show some flashbacks to her origin and days of being Jewel, but I'm not holding my breath. However, there is a circulating list of episode titles that seems to indicate that might happen (episode 12), but I don't know if it is legit or just wishful speculation by some fan. It was debunked when first posted, but it's got some creativity -- and sense -- which might suggest it's legit. We'll know for sure in a few weeks....

1 "AKA Ladies Night"[26]
2 "AKA Crush Syndrome"[27]
3 "AKA It's Called Whiskey"[28]
4 "AKA 99 Friends"[29]
5 "AKA The Sandwich Saved Me"[30]
6 "AKA You're a Winner"[31]
7 "AKA Top Shelf Perverts"[32]
8 "AKA WWJD?"[33]
9 "AKA Sin Bin"[34]
10 "AKA The Kumbaya Circle Jerk"[35]
11 "AKA I've Got the Blues"[36]
12 "AKA Jewel and the Power Man"[37]
13 "AKA Smile"[38]

I know little to nothing about Jessica Jones.
This will all be new to me.
I would love to see a flashback of her in costume.

Will see.

The other day was reading Slates review of Supergirl

www.slate.com/articles/arts/television/2...dural_in_a_cape.html

Its takeaway was a procedural in a cape-which from what i have seen isn't entirely fair, but well can guess what there going-that the actual super strength, flying etc doesn't really feel organic or speciall to the story.

I don't agree-but a point.

But i am defiently getting this a bit from Jessica Jones.

This is just a trailer, but none of that stuff seems important to the plot-which in fairness its not really that important to the plot of the comic-jessica jones is a good detective, and th super strength stuff comes only a couple times And that could be okay-but that does have the effect of making that stuff not feel very special.

So whats left is a detective show, facing a villian.Kinda of a procedural.

And it does seem kind of dour.

. Ritter is a very funny actress,But this doesn't seem the least bit funny, even the one or two moments that it seems like its telling a joke

The previous trailers seemed to emphasize the hot mess quality of the character of her as a bueatiful powerful woman without her shit together...and that can be funny...but not so much here. it seems very straight, very dark, facing a daunting force with her only solice being the bottle. Fighting a horrible rapy villian

And i can respect that., but this doesn't hyper make me want to watch it either.

Daredevils trailers had the same isssue, and the actual series did a better job of balacing the dark material with a little humor, and some suprising pathos with the Kingpin. But yeah...

The Slate review makes some good points, but overlooks others. They are likely correct in that this isn't going to be a deep, dark exploration of psyche and past trauma. We supposedly get a peak at the 13 year old Kara, who is likely damaged (who wouldn't be after their world blew up!?), but most of this show is set 11 years later, and she's had a very normal upbringing in a loving family since then. Like most kids put in the right setting with the right adults around her, she's healed. Many kids are astoundingly good as moving beyond childhood traumas.

This is a feel good, uplifting show aimed at girls from maybe six to their early twenties, but it will connect with both (all?) genders. Over and over the actors say in interviews that they like it because their kids are going to love it (and be able to watch it given its not an adult show).

I personally have no problem with shows or movies aimed at kids (I mean, I like Star Wars, and the original three episodes are written at a pre-teen level). Movies and shows aimed at kids can be entertaining. Hell, I like Frozen, so what does that make me? I'm old enough to unabashedly enjoy nostalgic movies and shows.

That said, I'm very sure I would enjoy an adult-oriented version of Supergirl more. There are so many interesting themes that this show won't be able to touch on. But we'll have Jessica Jones for some of that. Dark, sexy, nasty, scary and powerful.

The fact that we have both on TV at the same time will be great. But they are not in any way comparable or aimed at the same audience. So comparing them is useless. The only thing they have in common is an attractive, young woman who can fly, stop bullets and fly. Surprisingly, that really doesn't make them similar in any meaningful way.

Well, other than to tickle the fetishes that we have here on SWM. But that won't be the general audience reaction.
