Do you think WB and CBS are leaking these reports to generate more press for the show?

It's quite possible, IMO, especially with upfronts and advertisers coming in soon.

Deadline said that WB was counting on the show getting California's film tax credit for season 1. It did not get it and it affected the shows production budget. I wouldn't be surprised if the talk of moving to hated in the LA film community BC is a a way to get Sacramento to give the show the credit.

Give us the credit or we leave town and make you look cheap.

Why do so many people still think the show is going to CW?

Can the show apply for the California film tax credit this year, soon? What if WB can't find studio space or enough crew for the show in BC on such short notice? Will the show go somewhere else? Atlanta?

I would imagine that the show is already getting all available tax breaks and/or incentives for filming in California. The benefits of moving to Vancouver, I believe, would be the opportunity to share the studio space already being used by Arrow and Flash and probably sharing some of the crew used for the shows. I think this could happen regardless if the show ends up airing on CBS or the CW.

My only problem with a possible move to the CW is, where do you schedule it? They have renewed all of their shows, with the exception of Containment (and it looks like that will be happening soon). There's really no room for it on their schedule, especially for fall.

I believe someone mentioned below that they had budgeted the show around getting the incentives in California, but in the end they didn't get any. That's why the move to Vancouver came up, perhaps as a threat to get CA to approve them, but regardless, they would have to be prepared to make that move north if CA doesn't come through. For credibility if nothing else.

Yup, almost guaranteed in the next 200 to 300 years. Almost certainly less than a 1000 years. But also could be tonight. Or could be after Vancouver has become post-civilization jungle, as in Plant of the Apes. Best probability puts it at 10% chance in the next 50 years, based on analyzing past data. These hyper-massive subduction quakes are absolutely guaranteed, but with wide variation in timing. There is a geologic record of the last 40 or so of these quakes, which yields the approximate dates. The last one was in 1700. We actually know the exact date (to the day) of that one-- thanks to meticulous Japanese tsunami records that go way back. The tsunami was still significant on the other side of the Pacific. That big.

I live even closer to the likely epicenter. >9.0 quake expected at my house. Which is more or less like having a very large bomb land on me (given my house hangs over a hillside). Nothing left but splinters. Probably small ones.

The good news is that if I make it through the next 20 years or so, it'll be one heck of a way to go out. Sort of like riding the hydrogen bomb down in Dr. Strangelove.

That said, I'm always open to cute alien blonde girls flying in to save the day. In fact, why wait for an earthquake.

Or for that matter, one of the descendants of the Valkyrie, who could probably hold her own arm-wrestling Supergirl. Demigods. Definitely some very Nordic genes at work here, What is it about tall blondes and superstrength?

Mildly NSFW...
Warning: Spoiler!

That shot of Victoria is among those featured on a site that I think must be Turkish:

So should they start shooting in Ankara?

Yes But canadian Tax Credits will make filming there still very intriguing for producers! Very intriguing.

It seem like California's tax credit program is a joke. What good is it if a show Supergirl can't get it? Where are the big budget films? Hell, more DC films have filmed in my home state(Illinois) than California. We have 30% tax credit for film and tv production, despite the fact the state has a budget crisis.

If Supergirl does LA for BC or anywhere else, the whole program could end up being discredited in the eyes of the LA film community.

The issue historically was that LA was such a good place to make shows (every kind of resource is there) that they didn't (and still don't) have to offer the incentives that other states do. But what their selection criteria is for selecting which productions to incentize -- I have no idea. Maybe its based on who can most easily move, or is most willing, and incent them to stay.

If so, then there would be a lot of gamemanship on both sides.

The irony is that currently only the exec part of the studios is in LA now -- at least according to my sister who does special effects -- most of the support crews and firms work much closer to the actual shooting locations.

The basic anwser today is California a lottery-any film or tv show that wants to apply can, Right now something like 4 times as many films apply as get in, and that maybe going up. if you don't get it you can make it here or do it someplace else.
There was a smaller system a couple of years ago, but it was wildly considered an insider system, so they scaled it up to a blind lottery.

The secondary anwser-is it is cheeper to film out of los angeles. As a guy who has run these numbers before-crew sets all of it can cost twice as much as it does in BC or other places-sometimes much more. A union boom Operator costs 700 dollars a day in La, 300 in Vancouver-and this is not counting things like exchange rates etc.

So they could save a lot.

But this could help them. As i have said-the shows in Vancouver are all i think technically speaking much better shows-the camera work the stunts the costumes-it looks great. LA stuff not so much. One of the big things i hear in LA industury-is but the people aren't as talented....which is something i honeslty don't see in TV at all. Its not like Breaking Bad was shot in LA.

But they can't do the same show. Not really. One of the big reasons TV shows are filmed in LA-more then movies now, is there is a wider pool of actors who have roots here. This goes for cast this goes guest stars- and if i where a guessing man part of there discussions of why its taking long is just to negitioate that and to see what they get. I am not sure Calista "ms harison Ford"Flockhart wants to spend 9 months of the year in Vancouver, or even necesssarily Benoist. If they can't do it they have problems. They could right around it-Cat can be gone i supose...but its only so much.

I notice that a lot of shows that get the tax credit are shows that filmed in LA and left for someplace with a tax credit program and came back to SoCal. Show like American Horror Story and ABCs Mistresses.
Then, there are shows that, filmed their pilot elsewhere, but filmed the series itself in LA. If Supergirl films season2 elsewhere, could it return to LA for season 3?

I belive they can do that...but thats a tricky move. American Horror story can do it as its essentially an anthology, but its a tricky move.

LA Times: California holds its final film tax credit lottery

CA Gov site: California Film & Television Tax Credit Program 2.0

Variety: California Film Commission Unveils Details of How Tax Credits Will Be Awarded

The lottery system was replaced last year.

The new system trebles the money available to over $300m, and uses a bang-for-the-buck formula that ranks the shows based on a so called jobs ratio, reflecting the value of the production in terms of employment. A percentage of the money is ring fenced for pilots and new shows, and a further portion for existing shows relocating into California. Despite being neither a new show, nor an incoming show, Supergirl was expected to qualify in 2016 because it is one of the highest spending productions made in LA at the moment.

So, the show applied last year and didn't get the credit? Why? Did the program run out of money by the time it applied?

I wonder how disk sales will factor in to the decision. I haven't watched on air because I basically watch NOTHING on air, but I cheerfully pick up the box of disks for shows that seem promising. I was expecting to buy this series as a general thumbs up for the concept.

I still think it's kinda madness that DC can't figure out how to chain more properties off of the Arrowverse. Maybe not Supergirl, but still. The animated Vixen was a good sign but there's many, many more characters they could fold in who are at or below Flash's level of impact. Though I guess most of his powers are comparatively cheap in terms of FX.

There is also talk of several other networks wanting to buy the show.

My guess is that the show continues in some form, but perhaps not on CBS with their big budgets.

I wonder if this is all some suits deciding it's too expensive for the ad revenue it generates.

Might be bad news for special effects afficiondos, but maybe good for the writers, who had to fill every episode with flash and bang regardless of story. If that happens, I might like the change.
