Qualifications to be President of the United States.
www.presidentsusa.net/qualifications.html
No mention of being human.
There is also some debate of being born to American citizens while abroad qualifies you.
It has not been challenged yet.
In the last election if Ted Cruz had gained the nomination his status as Natural Born would have come up and the Supreme Court would have had to make a quick statement.
Something no one was really looking forward to.
I would like to keep this topic in the hypothetical realm please.

We do not know if President Marston was born in the United States or if she is even over 35 years old.
However her whole life as presented to the public was a lie.
No matter how well liked she was Congress would have had to impeach her.
She was right to resign.
She passed on accepting a Pardon.
I believe she should have been arrested on the spot.

Lets assume she was never legally President.
Her fraud now invalidates every bill she has signed and every order she has given was an illegal one.
The chaos that followed would knock the country back for years.
The anti alien upheavel would have been hard to stop.

The thing that makes a good villain is his cause or motivation.
You understand exactly where Agent Liberty is coming from and you can see why people listen to him and follow him.

On a lighter note:
Just how sexy can Rhona Mitra get?
That outfit she wore and her walk while attacking L Corp was off the chain.
Her fight with the equally sexy Lena was just what I was looking for.

I also loved the scenes where Cara, Lena and Miss Tessmacher were running around in heels.
More of that also please.

We need more sexy outfits in Supergirl.

I think everyone can see that Supergirl desperately tries to be political. But in this fictional environment, I think they are unintentionally making the case for intolerance.

To be a politician, every segment of your life is scrutinized. To run for Presidency that scrutiny would be on steroids. To suggest, that the media, investigators, FBI had no idea that the President was an Alien would be cause for concern for even the most Liberal minded.

Under no circumstance would anyone in their right mind allow technology that could conceal ones identity. Especially considering, that technology was used to elect an Alien President.

The Supergirl show is trying to resonate with a particular audience. They preach a message so poorly thought up, that even a 12 year old can easily see through it.

Is it that, there are too man episodes? And so they lose coherence because of filler? Cause I'd totally be okay with 10 episodes of Supergirl that had a coherent script, and less PC nonsense.

And, onto the most important question I think ive ever asked.....

Are Benoist's boobs getting smaller?

Not being from the USA, I can’t really comment on the procedure and rules for becoming president.

But from a storytelling perspective, I thought President Lynda did the honourable thing.  She committed a crime and took responsibility for it.

I loved the scenes with Lena, Eve, and Kara running around.  With Kara always looking for a way to “escape” so she can change :D  Nice writing there imo, playing with conventions, and audience expectations in a fun way.

I didn’t particularly like the “forced message of the day” from Nia to James.  And if I’m honest, sorry to say Nia, if anyone would know about prejudice and hatred, it WOULD be James.  Hell, he probably knows about it MORE then you!

Said it before, Rhona Mitra is still awesome sexy :D And Lena vs. Mercy was brilliant :D  Loved that interplay, and like Lena and Lillian, I want MORE Lena and Mercy :D

Which leads me to my next point – I am CONVINCED Lena knows Kara is Supergirl.  And while I understand the dramatic need to keep them separate, at this point, Lena NOT knowing is getting a bit too dumb.

All in all, an OK episode if I’m being honest.  Witwer’s performance as Agent Liberty so far is actually really good.  He has A GREAT voice (which is well known) and instills emotion into a character who can’t display any (atm).

Great to see TRON being sworn in as President :P

Not so great seeing the old kryptonite-used-as-a-depowering-plot trope :(

And I’m beginning to really feel that the huge cast of characters is going to drag the season down.  Throwing in a Nia-Brainy romance?  Is that really another strand we need to this season.  Red Supergirl and the reported Manchester Black haven’t even shown up yet.  Seems like an lot of strands to juggle.

Will see how this plays out.

Peace.

/K

P.S.

Are Benoist's boobs getting smaller?

On this particular point, I don;'t think she was particularly well endowed to begin with.  That's not a criticism, she is a lovely looking woman.  Just that, if they are, then I haven't noticed tbh.  Maybe she lost some weight? /shrug

Yes, it also does not help that in 5today's show was running with actresses who are buster than her so it showed her lack of tissue up.

As far as the various comments on politics or whatever go, one has to remember that this is a show about a comic book character, and everything by definition is both exaggerated and simplified in extreme ways. There is no attempt at reality whatsoever. That applies to everything, not just women who can fly.

Trying to connect what's in the show to any kind of reality is an exercise in frustration and futility. But people love to fight about politics, real or imagined.

Of vastly more importance, is Melissa becoming less sexy over time?  I think so. She's put on muscle, but given her build, it doesn't make her sexier, just sturdier. I suspect she's been replacing fat with muscle due to her workout routine, and while that looks awesome on some women, it doesn't on her. I mean, she just doesn't look like any of the classic Supergirls from the comics. Almost blocky. More and more like her cousin.

Probably doesn't matter to many folks, but some of us like a sexy Supergirl, especially this audience. There are actresses who, with a sexy costume, could melt down the show. Melissa isn't one of them.

I disagree Shadar

If you have a difficult time seeing parallels with what Supergirl is trying to do, in contrast with our current political climate. You might be slightly out of touch.

I really don't see many people arguing about politics, especially when it comes to supergirl. I do see people commenting, that Supergirl is desperately trying to be real world political.

On a completely unrelated note, got a quick story i'd like peoples thought on. The premis goes like this...

There are these potato people I call the Zew's who have built a wall around group of carrot people called the Zallistinains. The Zallistians blow themselves up because they'd rather die to have freedom. But the Zews just want to live in peace.

I'm really looking forward to writing this, as I feel a story about carrots and potatoes will really distract from modern day politics and problems.

Yeah, I'm with d_k_c on this tbh.

Supergirl is SO much about todays REAL WORLD politics, its become almost like a joke.

A VAST majority (not all to be fair) of the episodes are about some sort of social injustice that must be preached, pontificated and stamped out, that, to imply this is imagined, is simply wrong.

Its a show based on a comic book hero that should be about heroism, team-work, honor, sacrifice and good-overcoming-evil.  But, as has been mentioned before, this is a show about gender, race and all kinds of identity politics.

It is early in the season, and I am still hoping that they will turn it around.  However, that hope is very thin, and rapidly evaporating.

With regards to Melissa's look, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder like they say.  I don't really have a problem with how she looks.  Is she one of the sexiest women ever/in recent times?  No.  Doesn't mean she is isn't though. Not all women look the same, obviously.

There are these potato people I call the Zew's who have built a wall around group of carrot people called the Zallistinains. The Zallistians blow themselves up because they'd rather die to have freedom. But the Zews just want to live in peace.

Good, but quite as good as last week's episode. It was great to see Super girl using nonpublic image to quell that riot in DC and make that pda to speak to the whole country.  As for Melissa's appearance,I don't methinks she's as for as she was in season one,but she's still in actress shape. That is physically fit as a mod web young Hollywood actress is who comes gets cast in an action heavy role.

Getting upset about Supergirl's politics is like getting angry at Maxwell Lord for being a combination of Elon Musk and some tech bad guys. Or the upcoming Lex Luthor for being the ultimate asshole. They are all caricatures of reality which are given just enough hooks into current events and modern life to feel real. But they are all comic bookish inventions that are written to appeal to the sensibilities of their primary audience. Nothing new there.

If I watch an episode of Homeland or whatever cop show or doctor show you can name, I know right away who the show is aimed at, but I don't think that anything I'm seeing has a strong relationship to reality. If I started worrying about that, then my politics would determine what I watch. That would be silly and too limiting.

Hollywood creates imagined stories that should be appreciated as such, and not as advertisements for a brand of politics or various styles of criminality or whatever. They simply follow the sensitivities of their primary audience demographic and then exaggerate the hell out of it. Few of us here are part of the demographic that Supergirl is trying to please, but we have an interest in the show nevertheless. I am not going to start getting mad at Elon Musk for whatever Maxwell Lord has done, or at (pick your favorite real world bad guy) for whatever Lex Luthor is going to do, and the same goes for the show's politics.

Borrowing from reality does not make it reality.

Now, that said, if an actual Kryptonian showed up on Earth, I would begin to reevaluate all of this. But until then, fantasy is fantasy.

In any debate I often ask myself, would the opposite be true?

So for this one, lets change the tone of Supergirl and flip it on it’s back…. In this version of Supergirl, Aliens are destroying America, and perhaps the world. Supergirl, realizing she herself is an Alien, and knowing how much damage she could do vows to remove all Aliens from Earth, unless they came legally. Not only that, but decides to help the Government build an planetary defense wall to keep Aliens out at all costs.

James Olson uses a gun as Guardian, and encourages people of all ages to use a gun to defend themselves. He also talks about how White people have helped him through much of his life, and that all lives matter.

I really could go on….but I think you get it.

Now if someone on the left, would say….This is getting ridiculous, clearly this show is political propaganda.

I think I would be slightly out of touch if my reply was….That’s ridiculous, that’s like me saying Elon Musk is like Maxwell Lord, when an actual Kryptonian  comes to Earth come talk to me.

Again…..I’ll reference my potato and carrot story. You might have missed the theme…spoiler alert….It wasn’t about potatoes and carrots….And the Supergirl TV show, isn’t about Supergirl

Y’know, it feels to me that both in the States and in the UK there are troubling fault lines amongst tribal political groups.

I love that Supergirl is tackling this. Sure - it ain’t subtle but let’s face it. We do not live in subtle times.

Having the character and show actively embracing and promoting diversity in the face of hatred is a fantastic message - particularly for the younger viewers of the show imo.

As far as Melissa’s looks go. I think she looks the perfect part for the show.

And she is super hot in costume as SG :-)

I just want to make a couple small points in regards to this.

Y’know, it feels to me that both in the States and in the UK there are troubling fault lines amongst tribal political groups.

One pertinent question then should be, why is this happening on such a noticeable scale?  Could it be because its gotten to the point now where one side is shouting so loudly, that the other side isn't even allowed to present an opposing view?

Having the character and show actively embracing and promoting diversity in the face of hatred is a fantastic message - particularly for the younger viewers of the show imo.

Without getting to into it, the reason to CONSTANTLY shout this message (its not just in Supergirl), is that the ideology they promote is based on an oppressor and an oppressed.  If their is no oppressor, then their ideology goes down the toilet.  So they exaggerate or fabricate these "oppressors".

Ask yourself, who in their right mind would discriminate based on gender or race?  The answer is no one.  We should take EVERYONE based on their merit and character.  Simple as.  However, the message propagated in society atm is, you MUST accept them because of their skin color, gender and/or religion.

"I have a dream, that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." - MLK

I could go on, but generally, the disconnect is coming from the fact that the people are now realizing that the message coming from the left is, to pardon my french, a pile of shit.  Which is why you are seeing backlashes.

Peace.

/K

P.S.  And yeah, I'm in the "Melissa is still hot" camp :)

Completely agree Kikass. I'm a Canadian, and while my political alignment leans slightly to the right, in Canada. in the USA....I'm practically a communist. Discussing social inequities, universal health care, and the advantages of balanced socialism used to be interesting topics. A way to engage through discussion and communication.

Growing up, I knew who the enemies of society were. These were far right extremists who hate gays, blacks and every other minority. They burned crosses, wore white hoods and they deliberately promoted violence and hatred.

Now!? The KKK and anyone wearing a red hat are synonymous with one another. How did that happen?

No way in the world would I want someone like Trump to run Canada. But God help me if I mutter that some of Trump's policies have helped Americans.

The left has effectively shut down conversation. Any conversation. And I I'd be a fool to believe I can tune into Football, or Supergirl to get away from it all.

The great Irony, is that the Left created an Enemy....Because there wasn't one to fight. Congratulations....You did it!

Hey Kikass!

'One pertinent question then should be, why is this happening on such a noticeable scale?  Could it be because its gotten to the point now where one side is shouting so loudly, that the other side isn't even allowed to present an opposing view?'

I think there are a few reasons this is happening.

Internet algorythms push people further into their echo chambers and we can end up following news outlets/commentators whose views we most agree with. In this environment, over time views will become more and more hardened as people are dirven further into their tribes. Only hearing what they agree with and seeing others attack people with contrasting views.

There's no doubt in my mind this is happening on a huge scale and it's incredibly unhealthy.

I live in the UK so can't speak from a US perspective however it doesn't feel to me that opposing views are particularly supressed here. Indeed the BBC appears to bend over backwards to give two polar opposites of any arguement a say.

In the printed press there is a wide representation of views. Some papers are very left wing - Guardian/Independent and others very much the 'other side' - Mail, Express, Sun, Telegraph .

"I have a dream, that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." - MLK

Damn straight man!!! And that's very much a key message I'm getting from SG :-)

@ Mo

I get what you are saying, and agree it is unhealthy. But the:

Internet algorythms push people further into their echo chambers and we can end up following news outlets/commentators whose views we most agree with....

Is coming mainly from the left.  Look into shadow-banning if you haven't.  Its rampant on google and youtube.  d_k_c is correct, the left essentially shut down any discourse.

Its not even a matter of right and left.  If you have any views even slightly outside of left wing politics, you are branded Hitler and effectively shut down.  Look into ANTIFA and their shenanigans.

Before, you could engage in discourse with each other, share views and solutions to problems.  Now its - the left way or no way.  Its gone full retard.

Indeed the BBC appears to bend over backwards to give two polar opposites of any arguement a say.

On this point I must disagree with you.  The BBC is loudest, most biased left-wing mouthpiece in the UK.  And I live there AND AM FORCED TO PAY for them to spew this out.  To say, that they present an unbiased view is completely wrong.  Perhaps they have shifted SLIGHTLY, but that is only because more people are, for want of a better word, waking up.  I agree with your statement on newspapers for sure.

In the US, though I don't live there, generally try to keep tabs on what is going on.  And you folks over the pond are in a MUCH worse state then Europe tbh.  And it could have been a LOT worse if Hillary won.  Sure, Trump isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but you can bet your ass if Hillary won, it would have been a whole lot worse.

....And that's very much a key message I'm getting from SG

[/quote]

That isn't the message Supergirl is putting out though :)

Peace.
