Trip Down Memory Lane... (was Homage to Steeles)

Homage to the Steeles was created by JonX
Hey y'all.

So this afternoon I had an insatiable urge to write a blog post. And the subject of the post was to be about what got me into the superheroine genre. Not what got me into creating my own website and my own content... but what got me into the genre when I was a kid, and what kept me in it.

I'm not sure what it was. I've never really discussed it with anyone. If I told my friends they'd probably think it was because of the tight spandex costumes, and how all the heroines have big boobs, great legs and are as pretty as hell.

But I don't think its that simple. Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman costume wasn't spandex. Tight, granted. But not spandex. And she was a little more 'Mumsy' rather than a hot 20 year old kicking ass. (I know what you're all thinking about Mumsy by the way... you freudian lovers).

For me, its the arrogance, the 'knowing I'm stronger than you' feeling that I imagine that superheroines have. That power, and that superiority.

But anyway, back to my point. What got me into it, and what kept me?

So I wrote this blog post here about that:

But... as I wrote, it started becoming a homage to the Steele's - the Mandi Steele and Adara Steele websites.

Seeing Mandi at my computer, in a Supergirl costume, sent me into a spin.
And remember, this was back in the early 2000's.
I can't recall anything else like it out there at the time (remind me if there was).

And so, although you will find my own personal story on how I started creating superheroine comic books in this post, a large part of it is dedicated to the Steele websites and the team that created them back then. And I guess I wanted to write on this forum to ask you to have a read and really truly appreciate that website, because at the time it was groundbreaking.

(Warning - there is some promo of my own stuff on there, but the key reason for writing this post is to celebrate the Steeles)

Awesome post. I had the same reaction back in the day when I first saw Mandi Steele's website. Before that, I mostly remember some photo manips of Supergirl from a guy named 4Red (or something like that). Mandi Steele was certainly the ground breaker in this genre.

Nope - don't think it was Red5.
This was a guy that had a pay website and he was a professional digital artist.
I'll find one of his images soon and upload it/

I remember Red5 too... excellent work also :)

That's definitely the guy. Thanks for clearing that up. He had some supergirl manips back in the '90s that still look good today.

That's the guy!
Just been on his website and I can't find the two Supergirl images.
I'll find them and post them.

The other guy I just remembered was another photomanip artist. It may have been Daubster... but I'm sure there was another one.
I'll have a rummage around.

This is a nice stroll down memory lane! My love started with The Bionic WOman but much to my amazement when I got access to the internet, I found people like me. In the early 2000s I came across some great sites; I first discovered some Yahoo groups Superfemales, Superfemales 2, etc. I remember downloading clips over a 56k which was torture but the wait added to my excitement! Discovering all these tv shows and movies from other members who generously uploaded content was so great. I'm glad Superwomen Mania FOrums is still active to this day as it's been a big part in showcasing some of my talent for drawing and getting my art out there. JonX's sites have been inspirational too. You get the sexiest actresses I've seen one being Danica and how you introduced her to us was great. I think it's helped her career, lol. I understand reality gets in the way of creative endeavors, so no need to apologize but we are glad you are releasing stuff to purchase once and not a subscription model. I for one have been itching to see The Female Future ever since I've seen those screenshots. I'm under the impression you have a lot of footage from years past which you can release, recycle, etc. but it's great to see this stuff. I hope to see more.

I'm very excited.
Last night I stayed up until the early hours to scour my hard drive to find some of the old stuff.

This morning I wrote a blog post about it.
(again, I'm not trying to promote my website... its just easier to post all the images on my blog!)

Check this out:
www.superheroines.net/blog/2015/08/a-tri...-and-more-35-photos/

My FAVOURITE four photo manipulation artists...

In no particular order:

DF Fan
Daubster
4F

... and then I finally remembered his name last night...

Super Angelic

AMAZING!!!!

Check out the blog post. Loads of awesome photos.

I had a blast last night going through all that old stuff, and I was reminded how amazingly talent some of these guys are.

SuperAngelic - are you out there?!!!

Moderator... maybe we can move this post into a more general area so that members can post their first memories of superheroine life on TV or the internet?
It'd be really interesting I think.

I once flew out to Las Vegas to meet with Kelly and Mandi. Mandi was even more impressive in person than she appears in her photos. A striking, amazing young woman with tremendous presence.

When she walked into that bar, conversations stopped and everyone stared as she came over to sit at our table. This was in the early days, when she was the only Steele, and soon after Kelly had her first costume made by one of the shops in Vegas who do show costumes. These people had been making costumes almost exclusively from Spandex and related fabrics forever, so a very professional Supergirl costume was right up their alley.

Kelly described how Mandi, who was wearing her costume as they returned from shooting somewhere, tossed off her coat and danced into a crowded 7-11 to buy some drinks, acting fully in character, cape and blonde hair flying. Apparently the sound of jaws hitting the floor was pretty loud as Kelly sat out in the car and took it all in. She owned every guy in the place. Wish I'd gotten to see that.

At the time, we were talking about doing some kind of joint effort at the time, AU plus Steeles, but my schedule and overseas travel made it impossible. Kelly continued on and did great work on a variety of Steele sites.

But I'll never forget the presence Mandi had when she walked into that bar. That scene has shown up in a lot of my stories.

Man, I am so jealous of you right now. You got to see Mandi Steele? In person? In her Supergirl costume?

I remember immediately bookmarking her site when it was just a placeholder that had a picture of Mandi and the words "Coming in (whenever it was)". Then I checked almost everyday with the hope that it would open early. For you newbies, yes, we were that desperate for content back then. :)

In a lot of cases, it was just personal life events that popped up for the girls that sent a number of them into "retirement" -- at least that was the case when I was helping them with the sites from 2005-2008 (circa SierraSteele.com days). Kelly moved out of the area a little later but still continued producing for a while.

The usual stuff...people have arguments, falling outs, disagreements on creative issues or about money or significant others... or they just move away. Nothing unusual.

Nobody needs to know the details because we've all been down that road.

Ooooh... sounds like there's a little gossip there!

The only thing I'd like to know is whether they'd re-group?
I'm guessing not?

The other thing that is really playing on my mind is why SuperAngelic stopped creating that AMAZING work.

It has been a while, but really like posting again, getting involved with the forums again. I had a long break. And I feel that there is a lot of porn done really well. But I think there is space for some really stunning girls transforming into Supergirl!

Anyone remeber Kerry Smith's Ubergirls??? Those were some fantastic stories of women becoming super-strong. It was right up my alley since they weren't in super-heroine costumes but they wore tight outfits and sexy boots, etc,

Those were great groups! I discovered a lot on those, like Fantasy Island Extraordinary Miss Jones which was such a Bionic Woman inspired arc. I wish I had the money and resources to make a film with a 70s style look to it. Too many ideas and not enough time :(
