Cute. Go USAF.

Still, Diana's got some work to do on the tires. On the other hand, they probably retract into the invisible wings and fuselage during flight.

Maybe we need to send over one of the Northrup tech reps (maker of the B-2 Stealth) to work with her. I'd volunteer for that. Haven't forgotten everything I once knew about engineering.

Perhaps she employs a blind mechanic to do her normal maintenance. Ex-USAF for sure. An invisible plane wouldn't present any new problems for them.

The absolutely most pathetic aspect of this ill-conceived idea was the fact that, while the plane was invisible, WW in the plane has still been there for all to see.

Yes and no... given this universe, where Superman is flying around surrounded by nothing and in plain view, then a woman soaring around wouldn't be all that unbelievable.

But thanks to the invisible plane, it amuses me that she'd always look like she was sitting on the bathroom throne when she flew. Not nearly as graceful as Superman.

Of course, given that Themosycra's technology level was Ancient Greece, what the heck was she doing with an airplane in the first place?

Here's my half-baked theory: Some editor said she couldn't fly because that would crowd the Superman character, so the writers, after some thought and more than a little rancor, invented an invisible airplane. Which is also silent.
This might have started off conceptually similar to Power Girl's revealing top. A bit of "screw you" directed at DC by the writers. Because they came up with the stupidest way possible of dealing with transporting her.

But then, airplanes, visible or invisible, were still a novelty to most people at that time. One problem of looking back is that almost every decision on every subject is revealed to be stupid.

This, unfortunately, is the essential nature of man... to be regarded as stupid by all future generations. <grin>

My personal theory on the whole "invisible plane" thing was that when Steve crash landed on Paradise Island, his plane was damaged. Fast forward where Princess Diana is chosen to return with him to the "Patriarch's World". When she shows up in her classic red/white/blue costume to leave with Steve in his plane, he is confused (and stupified!) regarding her attire. She states that she saw the girl painted on his plane (i.e. one of those WWII pin-up gals) and thought that was how the typical "American" woman dressed. She was simply trying to blend in, and chose the color scheme based on the American flag. In any case, they plan to fly back together in Steve's plane (which has been repaired) and as the final finishing touch, the Amazons render it invisible so that it won't be seen as he flies through German airspace to get home. Even if you go with the later WW canon that gave her the power of flight, I can still buy that they fly back together in Steve's plane, as it would still be a valuable asset not worth losing.

That's a very cool theory -- copying the pinup artwork from the plane to make her costume, which she thinks must be normal clothing. I love it when something that's considered canon, even gospel, was in fact just a silly mistake at the beginning. Far be it for Steve to correct her!

And given that Themoscyra is inside an invisible shield, certainly the Amazons know how to use the same magic for the plane. They're just using stuff they've already got.

It's also a lot more fun and lighthearted than other theories.

A little far-fetched but well, why not? Blame it on the Germans.
