It's a good idea to explore the "power discovery" process longer. It certainly makes for a fun story but it's easy, I've found, to rush the character along to full and fully in control power levels.
I know a few producers have dabbled with the idea but normally only briefly but I for one will take on the idea (like I did briefly in Brain Damage where Super Michaela briefly forgets who she is and breaks a sink faucet and crushes an Advil bottle). I have a story idea written for Bella and Ashley where one woman gains powers suddenly and I had some "discovery" by the villain built in but I'll have to go back and see if I can add some more meat to it.
