She looks so awesome and so badass. I do miss the gold coloring that we do saw at the end of Antman, but this still looks pretty cool.

Am I the only one who doesn't like this?

To me this looks a lot like a lot of stuff you saw in the 90s in movies-lost in space, or video games A female Armour, with modled breasts. fair enough... And i don't inherently dislike that, and that look can be cool-Lost in Space is not a good movie but its visual design is not its problem.

But this looks lighter to me.-like physically lighter

And yeah maybe it doesn't have the colorization of the previous one.

And maybe its about her proportions-kind of her height or something and its scale....

to me its looking like she is wearing the halloween costume of a Wasp character-maybe its a very good professionally done version of that, but still ever so slightly off version of that.

i donno. I realize that in the comics she doesn't wear so much armor as just a costume and you know trying to suggest some reality in movies-but it doesn't really work to much for me.

Bring back those improbably tiny costumes that covered mostly nothing, such as we saw in the comics a few decades ago. Of course, that means CGI. Not even Ms. Lily can fly around and get athletic wearing mostly nothing without costume malfunctions or other realities.

Not to mention such a costume would fly in the face of current cultural values. Society is becoming less exploitive when it comes to women. Good in some ways, but not for a comics geek like me who has been tuned into female comicdom since the 60's.

The Millennials would say I'm a dinosaur (when they were being really, really nice). It's all true.

Nothing about that costume says The Wasp to me. Janet's outfits, while usually quite chaste, were always very elegant often colorful. The haute couture of super suits. This outfit, on the other hand, says "Lazer Tag" to me.

I while I agree that this design is very far from the comics, there are two points that we should all consider:
  • This is not Janet but her daughter, so it makes sense that the fashionista element of the character design is downplayer or even absent;
  • Opposite to comic-book Wasp, whose wings and energy blasters are biological, this character is strictly high tech and so I think that the design should reflect it.

I'm not saying that this design is automatically a pass, far from it, but I think that after almost a decade of the Avengers Franchise we should all be used to fact that the characters we see on screen are reinventions and, in some cases more than others, they don't visually match. I'm waiting to see some action shots before saying if this is a pass or a fail for me.

While I, like some, do wish that we could get the female comic book characters into their skimpy, swimsuit costumes, I'm old enough and wise enough to know that AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN IN A MILLION YEARS lol :P

So you have to take what is given. And in most cases, taking into account the medium change, the changes in costumes generally fair well :)

Anyway, who's to know this will be the only version of the costume she wears?

Still looks pretty good to me. And the woman in it is even better :D

Peace.

What works on a static page in a comic book doesn't always work on a real person on film.

If the pic had been captioned "kunoichi 2020" no one would have known this was in any way supposed to be the Wasp.

Its flat, nearly colorless and has nothing going on with its silhouette. Its a mediocre costume for almost any purpose and doubly so for a character with obvious/easy flair-elements. Like, say, yellow, anywhere on it at all. Presumably there's a helmet we're not seeing which might help, but right now its is a visual incarnation of 'meh'.

While she's a tech-based character, so a certain amount of carbon-fiber-everything is unavoidable, we also have plenty of examples of decidedly more sheer designs not only working but delivering colorful, intricate, and memorable costumes.

Or is that only ok because Spiderman's a guy?

I don't think it has to be skimpy-thats never been the wasp character(well probabbly somehwere but thats marvel).

But paradoxically-maybe the costume looks a little to small. its like its fit for an actress smaller then Evangaline Lilly(whose not a big woman), and she seems a little squeezed in-like the sides are designed for someone smaller.

Maybe the concept of that works, but the practice ehh.

For sure. And also the actress going "WTF?!?!?!? I'm wearing what????" also plays a big part, especially if you want attract big name actresses to the role :D

I don't know.
The stand out character in Suicide Squad was Harley Quinn and she wore this.

I have seen variations of this costume at every comic con I have been to since before the movie came out.
Including the high heels.
Women seem to like it.

In this latest X Man movie one costume stood out in the sea of dull black jumpsuits

And the "Official" Scarlet Witch costume given to her after she joined the Avengers has a plunging neckline.

Although I preferred her outfit in the first Avengers movie with the short skirt.

Some are fighting a rear guard action for sexy costumes.
That and the number of women who like to wear sexy cosplay costumes give me hope for the future.

The relatively low budget Deadpool movie, which was character driven and a big box office sucess, means smaller Superheroine movies might be the ticket in the future for us.
I would credit the director if I could remember his nome but a famous guy once said:
"In a genre movie your beautiful female star returns the most bang for your buck. She is the best special effect." (Very paraphrased)

Lets not lose focus on the fact that we have so MANY superheroines and supervillains showing up on screen now. This is the golden period of all golden periods -- since forever.

Some will be screwed up in our eyes, but man, what an amazing time this is. Sometimes that gets lost in our critiques. We are suffering from an embarrassment of riches,

Also, like everything else in entertainment, this will pass. Something else will replace it. Probably AI and androids. So lets enjoy it while we have it. We're on the clock here.

Yes, how many of us Diana The Valkyrie-reading fans could imagine the present super landscape in 1996? Not me.

And the "Official" Scarlet Witch costume given to her after she joined the Avengers has a plunging neckline.

But can you imagine Liz Olsen was told "You have to wear this!!!"

i.pinimg.com/originals/92/35/41/9235410c...5465cde66f82bb5f.jpg

(And yes, I know Whedon told her the EXACT opposite)

I understand what all are saying. Of course the characters are not gonna wear the same costumes, for a number of reasons.

And there are exceptions to the rule - Margo Robbie being the main one here. Olivia Munn as Psylocke is another (though that movie and she was crap for a number of other reasons also).

So I'm just gonna kick back and enjoy what is being offered. As a comic book nerd, I'm loving every minute of it :D

Peace.

Interestingly enough both actresses really hated those costumes apparently, describing them as uncomfrotably to wear at best.

"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

While those costumes may have been uncomfortable both actresses have enjoyed tons of press and are still talked about today.

When was the last time anyone said anything about Sophie Turner's Jean Grey and her boring black jumpsuit?
