This movie has potential.
Uma does quite a bit of "Uber" in the trailers (she exhibits almost the entire range of a Kryptonian's powers - literally).
Unfortunately, I get the feeling that this film will not be staying in the theatre for very long. This trailer lacks...something - or maybe I'm just missing the mark here.

i think ivan reitman has a thing for super girls, he attempted to make a Wonder Woman movie in the early 90s, and sigourney had some kind of powers in ghostbusters (canine powers?)
the movie looks dull itself (and so the effects and shots)
BUT its about a psychotic ubergirl, and its by uma thurman (@ 6', a tall girl, finally
whatta guilty pleasure

I dun know, call me a fan boy or what ever but i thought it looked good of course this movie is close enough to some of my own fantasies, that the trailer just blows me away. but then I may just be more easily amussed than most people.

Four more words--MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000! If ever that show got back on the air those robots would be doing their snide remarks all over this dog of a film!

So what if the Super-Ex story sucks? The stories in MI3 and X-Men 3 suck too. Lets be happy for what it is. Uma with superpowers and using them for less than honorable ends. That and some 21st century special effects to lllustrate the same.
I plan to enjoy it for what it is, not complain for what it isn't.
But I will carry the hope that Josh Whedon will pleasantly surprise us in WW. I liked Serenity. Even more, Firefly.
And hope that Superman Returns will give us a glimpse of what can be done with a story.
Lastly, if Super-Ex, Superman Returns and WW all make money, then you can be assured of many more films along these lines.
Forgetting all else, that's what we should really hope for. Hollywood follows the money. If enough movies are attempted in our genre, somebody will get it close to right someday.

It has been hinted at in interviews and stuff, but they haven't actually said it outright. I think that's considered a spoiler that they don't want to give away in advance, so we'll have to wait until the movie comes out to know for sure.Is it true that Anna Farris gets super powers in this film as well as Uma?

The altnerative seems to be no movie in this genre at all. The last time we had a female character with Kryptonian powers was the Supergirl movie in the 1980's. That campy approach to this genre was even further from our collective tastes than Super-Ex.

Count me as someone who would rather have no movie than bad movie. "Super-Ex" does not serve the same purpose or cater to the same type of audiences as X-Men and M:I. In those cases, they are all about the "Summer Blockbuster" with effects, explosions, and loud diversions. There will always be at least 3 of those types of movies in the theatre regardless of box office draw.
"Super Ex" is supposed to be comedy, granted. I am going to go see this (my girlfriend wants to see it - she likes the idea  ). And G-Girl does more "Super-Woman" in the trailers than Supergirl did for an entire movie.
But my point is this - how many bad shows and bad movies do we have to put up with as fans? Because all it says is that "Any movie with 'strong' or 'super-powered' women is destined to suck." And that impression, more than anything, would make any film-maker with status and a budget really shy away from good material.
I do hope I am all wrong about this (in which case I will find the producer of the trailer and smack them senseless - no big loss). I want "Super Ex" not to be horrible. I want it to do well in the box office (it won't challenge a summer blockbuster, but it should recoup production costs and turn a small profit).
But the first impression was a bad one.

I liked the trailer. The shark thing looks like both a lame idea and a cartoony execution, but other than that, it looks like it has potential.

"most special effects" I will be quite suprised. Mrs. Ace liked the Super-Ex trailer and is looking forward to seeing the movie. Reaction to that trailer was a lot better than to"The Omen" (We took in the DaVinci Code
on Sat). Guess who got to pick movies on which day? There was a really nice scene featuring one my favorite Supergirls, Rebecca Romijn.

I will put down 20 bucks that the shark thing is not in the movie.
In one on the Austin Powers movies there was a trailer scene with Austin and Mini-Me that was really funny. I was looking forward to seeing it in the movie and I was rather disappointed when it did not appear.

Actually, I'm guessing that the "target audience" has been women from day one -- guys like us are just incidental beneficiaries ...

It seems our wives and girlfriends are looking forward to this movie, too!

No offense, but you're only just figuring that out? Pretty much the definition of "chick flick" is any movie that revolves around a romantic relationship, successful or otherwise. The fact that this one is comedic means it's a "romantic comedy". The fact that it's supernatural is incidental.

It's not like someone has set out to make a superwoman-fetishists' fanfilm and this is the result. It's a mainstream Hollywood picture that HAPPENS to feature a beautiful woman (alright, not my first choice either, but they could have done so much worse - she looks sh*t-hot in the official poster) WITH SUPERPOWERS!! No blue lumpy skin, or pointy ears or furry tail - a real, sexy woman. And millions of dollars worth of FX to show these superpowers in use. From what I've seen/read it all seems to be there - strength, invulnerability, superspeed, superbreath... There's even (I'm told) a supersex scene. Best of all, it seems Thurman's character uses her powers for mischevious ends!!
Sure, it's a romcom which is not my type of thing either, but I won't be watching it for the romance or the comedy or the plot. Just the uberwoman bits. And all signs are that there will be more of these than just about any other big-bucks Hollywood film EVER - including "Supergirl". Plus, as has already been pointed out, it will benefit from the recent quantum leaps in FX technology.
You can't criticise a chick-flick for being a chick-flick!! This particular chick-flick will have a LOT of scenes/clips in it that should be right up the alleys of most of us here. Why the negativity from some quarters?
Incidentally, this raises an interesting question: are any SWMers thinking about going to see it with their wives/girlfriends/both ? I not sure I could. "You're very quiet. What's wrong with you? Why are you carrying your coat in front of your groin like that? etc." Good thing my better half hates American romcoms...

But that brings up another question. For those of us who are single, not currently dating anyone (although that's always subject to change regularly), are you planning to go see this movie by yourself?
Being single, I've long ago gotten over the embarrassment of occasionally seeing movies by myself, when there's something I want to see and my friends aren't around, or if none of them are interested. But a chick flick? By yourself?
Although, maybe it'll be a good place to meet women.

Buy two tickets at the counter. Smuggle a purse into the theater and put it on the seat next to yours. Slip out during the final creits.

I'm not quite that pathetic. I was thinking more in terms of going there to meet chicks.

But seriously, I'll probably just wait for the DVD. If it's any good, I'll want to keep a copy, anyway. Heck, even if it sucks, what little I saw in the preview is probably worth having a copy of, and there's bound to be at least a little more.

He turns to his beautiful co-worker Linda and says "Hey Supersweets. I would really like to go to this new movie Super-Ex, but I don't want to go see it alone. Would you like to take it in with me?"
"So powerfull women turn you on, do they", she says. "Sure, I would LOVE to go with you to see it."
You can pretty much take it from there!
