"Heroes" was created by lfan
NBC has green lit the "superheroesque" drama written by the writer of Jordan's Crossing for pilot.....

"NBC Universal TV will produce Heroes, executive producer Kring's ensemble drama about regular people who discover they harbor superhero-style powers. "

Stay tuned....

Looks like its moved past casting so that's a fairly promising sign....

"HEROES (NBC) - Greg Grunberg ("Alias"), Ali Larter ("Final Destination"), Hayden Panettiere ("The Book of Daniel"), Santiago Cabrera ("Empire"), Tawny Cypress ("Jonny Zero"), Masi Oka ("Scrubs") and Sendhil Ramamurthy ("NUMB3RS") have all been cast in the two-hour drama pilot, about a group of regular people who discover that they have superpowers. No details about their respective characters were released. Tim Kring is behind the project, which comes from NBC Universal Television and Tailwind Productions. Also joining the pilot is David Semel ("House") who will direct the project from a script by Kring."

More details as I stumble across them.....

Cool. This does sound like it has potential. Just don't be too disappointed if super strength is a rarity. If it's something with a large number of superpowered people, it's like to be like XMen, where everyone has a unique and interesting ability.

As for the cast, Ali Larter's pretty hot. I don't recognize any of the other names.

FYI....the only other girl mentioned that I recognize, Hayden Panettiere, played the "cute/annoying" daughter of the football coach in Remember the Titans. Just a little more grown up now:

Actually I was thinking this sounds more like the series The 4400 which runs on NBC sister channel USA Network. Still I agree this show sounds like it has potential.

SEMI-SPOILERS......

Well, only a spolier if its ever shown, but I read somewhere that Hayden's character (at least I assume its her since its the right age/sex combo) is named Claire and is a teenaged cheerleader that attempts suicide by throwing herself off a cliff or something like that. She hits the ground but somehow is not injured or hurt! (cue dramatic music)

From Scifi:

Larter (Final Destination) plays Niki Sanders, a Las Vegas stripper and single mother facing financial problems while raising her intellectually gifted young son... As to the specifics of her character's powers, Larter would only say: "There's something that has to do with my reflection and what's happening with that, and possibly some extraordinary strength may have something to do with it all."

After viewing the video clips on NBC's site, I have come to the conclusion that the cheerleader is NOT invulnerable. When she takes the dive from the height, her arm is dislocated and she gets a long cut on her cheek. She was able to easily pop her arm back into the socket with no visible pain and the cut healed completely within a minute or so, but that's not invulnerablity. She's not invulnerable, just immortal.

I agree with Jumper. Also, during the clip, they list a bunch of powers that the mysterious 'doctor' was researching and they directly mention cellular regeneration. So it looks like she's going to be more like Logan than Diana or Kara.

She's still damn cute though :)

Not that I put much stock in critics ~ but on a radio interview a guy this morning said that the pilot looked good.

Then he back-peddaled and said that he doesn't say shows are good anymore ~ because ofter there is a huge difference between the pilot and normal episodes ~ but that they have potential.

He then said "Heroes" has lots of potential. :D

Overall it was pretty good and worth the watch for people who have never seen the promos! :)

Its ironic that we often complain that shows of this ilk never get the duely deserved promo to be successful, but NBC has been pimpin this one big time. As a result, I found myself watching the pilot having "seen it before" since almost everything in it I had seen on TV promos, YouTube, promo stills, etc.

Nevertheless, was definitely worth the watch and I'll be tuning in. I found it somewhat interesting that the show got away with a number of the "indestructible cheerleader" scenes as they contained more grotesque injuries and blood than almost anything I had seen on network TV -- though I guess ER and other hospital shows kinda get "bloody" at times as well.

In short....see it.....

Hello all,
I missed the premiere last night, didnt think it was worth watching (I was hoping it was a SUPERHERO series where they wore costumes, capes, masks, etc) but, it doesnt look like that, which is okay. Was there any -super-esque- type scenes in it maybe the cheeleader doing something super or crushing something, you know, stuff Jaime Summors used to do as Bionic Woman. (and if not, do you all think there will be in future episodes?) :)

Her character is pretty much Wolverine without the Adamantium. Well, if Wolverine was a female blonde teenaged cheerleader. I don't know if this needs to be stated, but I'm guessing that she's underage seeing as how she's still in school and lives at home with her non-biological (adopted, I think) parents.

Hi Doctor Robo!

We've had the "underage" debate on these forums in the past. Generally, we use the law as a guide. So, she's underage if you're viewing in the US and perfectly "legal" (cough) in the UK and most of the rest of the world.

As we say in these parts "If there's grass on the wicket, you can play cricket."

Hi conceptfan!

Here in the States we have a similar baseball euphamism: "If there's grass on the field, play ball!"

In all seriousness, I've read many discussions (or should I say debates) about characters that are near but not yet at adult status and whether there are separate rules/taboos because they are fictional characters. In fact, many of the characters in question are from drawings or animations, further blurring the line. My personal opinion is 'better safe than sorry'. I'd rather err on the side of caution and distance myself from those types of images. Luckily I prefer fully adult women and don't enjoy those sorts of pictures so it's a moot point. I just don't want the thought police (or even the real police) to come knocking down someone's door for no reason. Unfortunately in this day and age you can never be too cautious.

How did we even get on this tangent anyway? If they had made that 'Claire' character a college cheerleader instead of high school we wouldn't even be having this discussion, would we? Damn NBC!
