It wasn't the best of times, it wasn't the worst of times, but it was the weirdest of time... at least for Hitomi. After years of sitting on her ass as part of the literature club of her high school, she had decided to do something for her body. In actual fact, it was her doctor who told her to do it: apparently she had some kind of congenital muscle problem to her back muscles and one of the easiest ways to counter it was swimming. So, in her last summer home before moving to the big city to attend the university she started going to the swimming pool... and weirdness ensued.
At first, there wasn't much to talk about, except sore muscles, the need to re-learn how to swim after 15 years and the indignity of some of her classmates pointing and laughing. After a week or so, Hitomi started to notice some changes: she was feeling much better in the water, the soreness subdued wait quicker, but she also noticed that her non-descript black hair was turning pale. Of course, she thought it was the chlorine sipping through her thin cap, so she got a thick neoprene one and dyed the pale spots... Nothing. The process seemed to even accelerate and in less than a month she was a bleached blonde. But this was just the beginning of the weirdness. As her hair changed shade, her body changed shape dramatically: in a fortnight or so she when from cute and chubby to cute and lean and nobody seemed to notice!
That was the most astonishing part of the entire process: while Hitomi was more than a little freaked out, everyone else seemed just okay. None of her friends or relatives commented about these changes. Even her mother seemed absolutely convinced that there was nothing wrong with her, which was doubly weird since she was very traditionalist and didn't take well to any change at all.
In spite of all of this Hitomi kept going to the swimming pool regularly. The water just felt so good. she could stay in it for hours and she never got raisin-like fingers. Of course, the combination of a lighter build and constant training had its effect and someone took notice. Halfway through August, one of the pool trainers approached Hitomi and the poor girl almost went bonkers: apparently someone had recorded and clocked her... and she had, without even knowing, crushed multiple Olympic-level records in the little pool of her town.

Opportunity only knocks once, as they say, so Hitomi decided to give it a shot, in spite of her usual shyness. Three weeks later she was in a hotel room in Osaka and in less than 24 hours she would get into a trial for the regionals.
Against her new coach's advice, Hitomi decided to go to the hotel's swimming pool. Over the last month, she had grown a bit more accustomed to her new body and she just wanted to don the red bikini she bought and relax.
The familiar sensation of comfort wrapped her as she slid into the water. She felt at peace, at home, as if the water was a warm blanket. She just drifted across the pool, laying on her back, listening to the sounds of the world getting more and more distant...
Hitomi woke up with a strange sense of pressure on her chest. She opened her eyes and everything around her was cerulean. She panicked and started to swim with all her strength toward the surface. In a handful of seconds, she broke the surface and grabbed the metal railing of the ladder. Coughing and sneezing she climbed to the edge of the pool. Was she okay? Yes, in fact, she realized that, despite her heart racing at 200 km/h, she was good, her lungs weren't burning, only her chest felt heavier...
Looking down, Hitomi saw her bikini top stretched over two sizeable lumps of flesh. Wide-eyed, she slowly touched the left one just to confirm that this was actually her body.
As droplets fell from her limbs, the full magnitude of the situation sank in. Hitomi's gaze wandered across the empty pool before stopping upon the wall-mounted clock. She blinked two, three times before gasping in disbelief, but that was nothing! As she lowered her eyes toward the pool she noticed that the anodized steel railings had some small dents. Experimentally she extended her fingers and the size matched to the millimeter!
Biting her lower lip, Hitomi rose and stepped down into the pool, but this time she didn't even try to swim, she just walked down to the bottom... and the water spoke to her.

The next morning, Hitomi's coach was on the verge of a nervous breakdown: his new protegé was nowhere to be found. Finally, at the last possible minute, she walked in. He was about to give her a piece of his mind, but decided to save it for later. She simply smiled and rewarded him with a very mischievous gaze from under her... pink bangs. Of course, they were pink, he had tried to convince her to stop dying them way too often.
The trial wasn't even a contest, it was a complete massacre. Not only Hitomi stomped all the others, but she pulverized male and female world records without even breaking a sweat! Of course, the anti-doping inspectors went down on her like vultures on a dead animal... but couldn't find anything, because now no needle could penetrate Hitomi's skin.
