Unexpected successor

Unexpected successor was created by Thefirstone
An idea that I’ve had for a while is of superpowers that transfer from one person to the next when the previous holder dies. Someone could probably make an entire story about an unassuming housewife abruptly becoming the most powerful woman in the world seemingly at random.

This is pretty much the entire premise of the webcomic "Our Supermom" and its two prequel novels. An idea that I’ve had for a while is of superpowers that transfer from one person to the next when the previous holder dies. Something could have worked with this when Lana achieved and tookover Clark's powers in Wrath. Unfortunately, they felt the need to maintain the 'premise of smallville' much to our disdain. An idea that I’ve had for a while is of superpowers that transfer from one person to the next when the previous holder dies. "Seth is introduced as a former drug dealer who possesses the ability to remove powers from others, store them in his body and then transfer them to another person. Seth uses his power as a business, purchasing powers off people who don't want them, then selling them to willing buyers."

Somewhat similar idea in BBC series Misfits, about random people who gain superpowers:An idea that I’ve had for a while is of superpowers that transfer from one person to the next when the previous holder dies. Oddly, the short lived CrossGen Comics series Meridian started like this. But it wasn't a recurring thing, just the origin story for the lead super powered girl.

For the record I kind of got the idea from the Four Maidens from RWBY. Apparently new hosts can only be “young women” (the writers clarified the cutoff age is around 30) and the power goes to the last person in the previous hosts thoughts if that person is eligible, and if not “things get complicated.” No explanation has been given as to how the succession works in that scenario, incidentally.

I believe the statement was if the person in their thoughts isn't a woman young enough for the powers then they just go to some random girl throughout the population. Which is bad because the person could either abuse them, be unable to control them or just not use them in which case the organization in charge of keeping track of those powers won't be able to find them which is a problem because each maiden has a magical vault that holds and important artifact that only they can open.
