A story idea that occurred to me.  Essentially, human evolution was meddled with in prehistory by some alien being/race for whatever reason motivates them.  Possibly as an art project by their standards, who knows.  Anyway, the biggest modification was a “protocol” hidden in the human genome that activates either at a predetermined point or in response to humanity as a whole being threatened, and gives one seemingly random person enough power to fight off the threat/single-handedly conquer the world/whatever the aliens had in mind.  Naturally, one way or another, this protocol ends up activating in the present day, and turning an unassuming woman into, essentially, a living goddess.  That, and/or someone finds out about it and figures out how to trigger it artificially.

Any thoughts?  Ideas?  Questions?

I can see the idea in aliens having accidentally meddled with humanity's genes in some way, and them creating a failsafe protocol to activate during a possibly devasting catastrophe.

With this origin in mind, I think it makes more sense for more than one person/woman to gain powers from this as the genes can have spread widely. That being said, not everyone activates their genes at the same time.

This is very close in concept to some of the interpretations of the Eternals/Deviants experiment in Jack Kirby's Eternals.

Your approach to the Ancient Astronauts concept is good one. But many stories and concepts of this type exist and are all great fun to play with. I encourage you to continue.

One of my favorite backstory elements is that one of several ancient alien races (in my case the Galen) discovered many millennia ago that the clever apes (humans of Earth) were incredibly adaptable, intelligent and fertile, and they abducted many of them to modify and otherwise improve genetically to serve their purposes. Essentially making them biological tools. They and their agents (Seeders) still do this.

They maintain the Earth as a 'control' or 'nature park' where most people don't know that tweaked humans from Earth now populate most of the galaxy.

One of their more interesting 'tweaked' or 'client' populations, a very powerful one which are no longer controlled by the Galen and have broken away to develop as they wish, are the Velorians/Arions and their ilk. They interact with Terrans across the galaxy now, and a few of them over time have returned to the ultimate planet of human origin, and become the subject of tales, rumors and stories, also called mythology.

Every UFO story and tale of gods/goddesses and all mythology can be shoved under that banner, e.g. Valkyries were Velorian prototypes, etc. etc.

I always thought it would be interesting (and such a colossal joke) that the entire Galaxy was teeming with Terrans of various tweaked kinds, which everyone out there knows about and interacts with daily -- EXCEPT for the people on their planet of origin who are kept mushroomed and know nothing of this and think they might be alone, who are striving to escape their planet, and largely dismiss rumors of aliens and UFO's as silliness.

Humans who are worried about (or dreaming) of aliens, when in fact most of the beings in the Milky Way galaxy ARE humans from Earth, some heavily tweaked, who aren't allowed to call or travel home because the 'nature park' is closed to keep it natural and uncontaminated.

Irony on a galactic scale is fun.
