I don't even remember the last episode I watched. I think it was when the Transgender character was introduced and the wokeness just went off the charts. I know I'm old and the young kids may be all about that, but that's not for me.

Just saw the last 2 episodes and have to agree with the comments about overdoing the social justice and wokeness.  There should be a compilation of the best superpower scenes from the series. They could have done more with the idea of supercharging a Kryptonian with solar energy.   Would think some close range sunbathing or sundiving might do it.

Thanks Slim, seeing the first scene with the aircraft looks epic now!
(As does Kara lifting Fort Rozz into the sky - maybe not so much as when she saved the plane.)

I saw a clip from the big finale fight scene, and Alex (IIRC) -- in a fight scene -- berates her enemy by saying that she didn't consent to being touched. This writing is just garbage.

It's written for people who grew up in the 21st century, where this writing probably sounds just perfect. Those of us who have been through a good chunk of the 20th century, especially if we are veterans, can laugh at their naiveness.

Trick for good mental health is not to watch shows written for Millennials or Y's.

Sounds as of the characters are woke, but the viewers are Zzzzzzzz....

And we still seem to get nothing but Peril in amateur videos.

No mass audience for the kind of fiction we did or tried to do in the AU.,

Sigh...

Admittedly the show was always not good, but apparently the rumored reasons of it being especially bad in season 6 and Supergirl herself not getting to do all that much are down to two supposed things. One is that Melissa was just so done with the show and was pissed that Covid held it up so she couldn't wrap before having her kid, so they apparently used a stand in whenever possible. Supposedly any shot in the season you don't see her face is a stand in filming with the other actors. The second is that because they couldn't make Supergirl gay or bi which they were pushing for but DC wouldn't allow, the writers realized that her being a straight cis white woman clashed with how they were focused on being woke first and foremost so they no longer had interest in the title character.

Just another example of how the CW sucks. Steven Amell and Ruby Rose already explained plenty of that, and I tuned into Flash for the first time in years because Brandon Routh guest starred as Ray Palmer and I like that version of the character and Grant just looks so done with everything in all his scenes.

The last 3 series were bad, the rate of badness increased season by season, by the end it's was a steaming pile of dog excrement. They should go a new series either in estimated for or in live-action based on her as a child, a "young Kara" type series where she could explore abilities while fighting crime and adjusting to a new world, that would bit a hit for them and will allow them to get away from the woke shit that they have propagated in the series.

Expect all new shows to try and out woke the next, it’s Hollywood and that is what they’re catering to.

I never expected to read Supergirl being de-bunked (for want of a better word) here on SWM!, but yeah the general consensus is it failed.
Season 5 was pushing it for longevity, and S6 looks like a total waste of space (perhaps they were contracted to produce six seasons,) but yeah, it was disappointing.

Not even Supergirl was strong enough to survive the Culture Wars. No one is.

Never in the annals of human endeavor has there been such anticipation for something that sucked so badly.  One episode of WW was better than all 6 seasons combined.

Perhaps the producers were trying to 'tap' into the feel of Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman back in the late '70's and early '80's where a slightly camp style really worked.
But throw in loads of modern technology on the set with cr*p storylines, and the production just falls apart in the latter seasons.

Most of their target audience loved most episodes and enjoyed the ride and really were sad that it ended. Good for them.

The real question is whether a movie will ever come out of it? How long did it take after the WW show ended until there was a real feature movie? Somebody will eventually come back and decide to adapt the character for a movie, given there is an audience. Nice thing about movies is they don't have time for mucking around endlessly masturbating over social/cultural issues like a TV series, and likely it would be far more action driven. That would be nice.

Perhaps by starting over with a really young and inexperienced Kara, ala Stargirl. That could be fun. As would a portrayal of her as an adult within a Justice League that once again lacks a Superman for some reason and needs a heavy hitter at Diana's level or above. She and Diana, sparring at full power before the team takes on someone at least of Steppenwolf's power. I can dream. You know such discussions must be happening in DC during brainstorming for future movies. Just look at the various things they've done with her in animation and games.

My money says she appears next in the JL continuum and on the big screen, and will be very different than CW's portrayal.

Net, net... I don't think this the last we'll see of Supergirl on the screen. But then, I'm an eternal optimist.

Already done.  She will be in the Flash film, played by Sasha Calle.

The jury is still out on whether she will be Kara or another iteration of the character.

Peace.

That video mirrors many of the issues I had with the show in earlier seasons. The shows started strong but I think two main issues happened afterwards:

1) The writers just did not know what do to and did not have enough imagination to carve their own path with Supergirl. I kept seeing famous Superman storylines being taken and just swapped around to be Supergirl storylines. I kept seeing Superman villains fighting Supergirl. The entire basis of the first season (and show itself) was Supergirl stepping out of her cousin's shadow and trying to be her own person. After the first season or two, it never really felt like that to me. While they did a great job (initially) with Lex Luthor, it was still Superman's arch-nemesis fighting Supergirl.

2) Someone decided to inject their politics into the show. I say this as a far-left Progressive Liberal. It was so ham-fisted that it was embarrassing to watch. There was not a hint of subtlety and everything had to be explained in these cringe-worthy monologues. Some more conservative YouTube channels started referring to the show as SJWGirl (Social Justice Warrior Girl). It was like being hit over the head with a hammer when all you want to do is watch a superhero show and escape a little bit. If I want some deep social commentary, then I will watch (again) Squid Game, Parasite, Black Mirror, Get Out, American Psycho, or something similar. CW has never been good at that.

I always thought the first two seasons were probably the strongest. The third season had its moments. The fourth season is where things just went off the rails and I threw in the towel. Frankly, the fourth season was a real shame because Sam Witwer is a great actor and I felt he was seriously under-utilized throughout the season.

Might be a spoiler for anyone that still hasn't seen the last episode.

www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a38262722/sup...ason-6-kara-danvers/

What could save Kara from the fate of mediocrity - and just living life being an editor-in-chief?   Could she transfer her power to a group of  supergirl proteges so she could retire and find find work life balance?
Or would that end like Superman where he gave up his powers to marry Lois, only to be powerless against supervilliians?

In reading that article on DS, the whole story arc wouldn't make sense and doesn't make any sense. Crazy production crew blew it.

from the wikipedia articles on Supergirl tv series and CW network:   The first 3 seasons of Supergirl were 2015-2018.
Maybe the changing owners of CW network are related to the seasons 4-6 after 2018.   Ratings and viewer count kept falling with each season.

I believe that was when the main creator was abruptly fired for sexual harassment. They promptly threw out any story material even remotely related to what he had planned both out of spite and to make sure he couldn't ask for a single cent in creative royalties. As a result they were just making shit up as they went along in the last 2 and half seasons.

Moving a show to the Sunday time slot is the kiss of death. You are competing against Sunday night football and host of other more popular shows. No CW show can seriously contend against that lineup on other networks. Then the rating inevitably start falling and the networks can justify cancelling the show due to "falling ratings." Tuesday is a better time for the show but by then the damage has already been done. Couple that with bad writing and mediocre story arcs and you have the reason why the show got killed.

However, I also argue that CW over-saturated the market with too many superhero shows, which caused all of them to suffer.
