Did anyone watch the new Flash movie with the new Supergirl

18 Jun 2023 22:06 #77059 by shadar
Can anyone report on how Supergirl looked and was written/acted/special effects, etc in the new Flash movie?  Heard the movie didn't do so well at the box office, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the Supergirl depiction was poor. Just wondering if there is something to look forward do when I watch it on Max eventually...

Spoilers:

The movie overall was a complete mess. Horrible CGI and complete nonsense plot, that went completely off the rails in the final act. Keaton was cool as Batman, when the original score plays you get a smile on your face. Ezra Miller portrays Barry Allen as both obnoxious and compelling at the same time, leading to massive tonal shifts. Some scenes are great, others are complete crap.

Supergirl is in the movie less than I thought, but she has two major battle scenes - one against russian soldiers, and one against Zod. The one against Zod was okay, but the one against the russian soldiers was probably the best "Kryptonian vs regular guys"-fight I have ever seen. Great slomo, lots of superstrength, but questionable CGI ;(.
She has a few other scenes, including one where the she carries and flies Barry into the clouds.

Overall, a middle of the road DC movie (Better than "Suicide Squad" and "Wonder Woman 1984", but worse than "The Suicide Squad" and "Wonder Woman".

Ironically, in The Flash movie - Supergirl with her cameo of about 15 minute total screen time does more "superstrength" things than in the entire Supergirl TV-show.

Encouraging that it had so many superstrength scenes. I'd prefer in-depth character development, but lacking that (it wasn't her movie), a lot of super strength scenes can make up for a lot.

I presume there will eventually be a YT video that captures all of those into one video.

I'll definitely watch the movie when it streams though. Odds are that will at the end of Summer.

I thought the movie was great, best DC movie to date. Most of the supergirl scenes were the ones in the trailers, a few more. Ursa was in it as well, a few strength scenes.

Haven't seen it but I think will wait for streaming or uhd. There is an article apparently there are lots of deleted scenes of Sasha calle that were too R18 with violence. Hopefully that comes out eventually.

First rule of superhero movies... have to be OK for the kiddies.

But I'd love an R version with the cut Supergirl and maybe Ursa/Faora scenes.

Does anyone know of a movie that came out as PG or PG13 and then was re-released as an R?  Can't think of any.

Was Superman 2 R when it came out. Sarah Douglas - Ursa was sexy as hell and I was early teen when I watched.

Just saw it.

She’s not your typical Supergirl, but she’s far and away from your now typical pc supergirl. I’d say shes her own Supergirl, and I’m sad to think we’ll probably never see her again.

Most of the stuff you see in the movie regarding her, you’ve seen in the trailer.

My thoughts are, it’s far from a great movie….. but it is a good movie. I’d strongly recommend seeing it.

There is a toxic fandom when it comes to these movies. I follow a lot of them on social media. I started follwing them after the “the last Jedi” trash of all trash…the holdo maneuver of the cinematic experience….. but lately I think some of the people just want to be toxic for the sake of being toxic.

Go into this movie thinking, meh, and you’ll come out pleasantly surprised

Keep in mind that anger and rage are the easiest emotions to drive interaction on social media, and social media algorithms actively encourage and promote highly engaged posts. A lot of Youtubers built careers from posting numerous rants about why everything is terrible, even when it is clearly not or maybe just ok.

Toxic fandom is easy to avoid. Just ignore. Life is way too short as it is to give in to anger and rage -- for anything. Algorithms on social media are there to drive their ad revenue. Period. Not to inform or be useful in any other way.

If you are fortunate enough to talk deeply with someone who is really old and still mentally sharp, like 100, they are always mellow and accepting and probably haven't felt anger let alone rage for decades. One very old man told me that all the friends he'd known in his life who were angry and raging and getting excited about things they had no control over had all stressed and stroked out long ago -- dead and buried. For nothing.

That's how he got his revenge on all the unpleasant people in his life.

For what its worth...

Here’s the big thing Ezra Miller is nuts so that’s not helping and that whole syndervere fanboy thing is dogplieing on top of that. So dcu hopefully works well but who knows the supergirl film could get canned

I saw the movie and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I can see some of the complaints with the CGI but a lot of the scenes the rage farmers are complaining about were Barry in a time sphere thing looking at other worlds and timelines and everything being all distorted. In other words, what he was looking at was supposed to be distorted by time so of course it looked off. Anyway, I digress...

Like people said above, Supergirl wasn't in the movie all that long but when she was it was impactful. She wrecked a bunch of prison guards (and by "wrecked", I mean killed. Those people who complained about Superman killing Zod way back in Man of Steel should be screaming about this.) and fought a bunch of Kryptonians, including Zod again. Unfortunately, that fight doesn't go so well for her in the end. One other Supergirl related note, be on the lookout for a surprise cameo from another Supergirl from a bygone era.

My wife and I saw it in IMAX. I very much like Ezra Miller's portrayal of The Flash, especially the humor he brings to the part. Wonder Woman had a very short scene too.

The Supergirl character was not like Helen Slater or Melissa Benoist. She had been abused and was angry. The fighting scenes were pretty good.
