Kara Zor El at 148 ?

Kara Zor El at 148 ? was created by shadar
One of the stories I'm working on depicts a future (part of my Little Krypton series) where Kara Zor El happens to be 148 years old -- and is still having kids. She's in her civvies because she passed her cape on to her daughters.

Presumably, a Kryptonian living under the rays of a yellow sun won't age very fast, but I'm surmising she will grow more mature looking over the years.

Does anyone else see this pict as a still very attractive but mature Kara who is paradoxically both Supergirl and a supercentenarian? (Faces speak to me when I'm writing a character.)

Or do you see Kryptonian aging very differently...?

Hmm, I can sense some maturity, but would still place her as being fairly young (late 20s at most).

I was shooting for looking 30's at first glance, yet with a hint of much greater maturity if someone studies her closely. Tricky thing to capture with
short-llived humans as models and too subtle for AI.

Here's an alternative thought... Kryptonians get more muscular with time, and their hair, while growing slowly, can't be cut.  Kara at 148 ?

(Anyway, please excuse my esoteric bit of noodling over Kryptonian aging or the lack thereof. But images have always been useful to help me develop characters, such as I can.)

There are no scissors made with green kryptonite blades in your universe?

Kryptonians are a side-show in my universe, where Velorians and Arions dominate, but are fun to write sometimes. My conceptualization of Kryptonite is that it's a deadly substance even in low doses and can't be used for such purposes. I would equate it to cyanide, which might not kill you in low doses, but has such horrific effects that even in low doses it will make a Krypt wish they were dead.

Krypts evolved under a red sun, so being energized with yellow-sun rays is a profound side-effect that has some glitches in how one lives under its influence. In my Little Krypton stories, Kal and Kara conceive their children inside the photosphere of the sun, where they are flooded with yellow-sun energies, which ensures that their sons and daughters all grow up more powerful than they are.

But the joy of Kryptonians is that everyone can have their own concepts and stories, and they don't have to be congruent, given that DC Comics has done exactly that starting halfway through the last century.

This is version of Kara from the Legion of Superheroes: Millenium series. Given that we are in the 31st century... she aged pretty gracefully.
Also, in this particular version of the Legion contintuity, she's the president of the United Planets.

Interesting, Woodclaw. I should pick that up to read and steal ideas. <grin>

My Little Krypton series starts off more modestly in 2096 but will have stories that bracket around that by about 10 years +/-.

I'm mostly telling the stories of Kara and Kal's children (a dozen so far -- Kara is Supergirl after all) and how they grow up as Kryptonians on Earth. Given they were conceived under (or in) the yellow sun (Kryptonian sex is obviously hot), and grow up super from birth, there are a lot of tales.

One of the challenging bits is to reasonably portray how this first generation of offspring are able to further reproduce without becoming hopelessly inbred and avoiding the ickiness of incest. Right now, Kara's focus is on merging Kryptonian and Asgardian bloodlines, which turn out to be sufficiently compatible (with some S.T.A.R Labs help). She knows it works given her most recent child is with Thor. Which is an unwritten story of its own.

The first full story involves the son of Thor and Sif (named Leif) and the second oldest El girl, named Lara El. Thor, following in his father Odin's footsteps, seems to have children with a number of women, most recently with Kara, as was typical of most Greek, Roman and Norse male gods. But given Lara's lineage is purely Kryptonian, her crossing of Asgardian and Kryptonian is still generically safe if not a bit socially dubious.

But Kara's plans to build a self-sustaining Kryptonian colony on Earth are seriously hampered by the narrow gene pool, so she's always looking for new possibilities. Maxima, who earlier had a child with Kal, is a bad choice given she would raise any children in her world, and her people's cruelty are infamous. And Diana of the Amazons, who has two daughters with Kal, is limited by only allowing female children who are raised as Amazons.

Kara and Kal want to raise their children and grandchildren within their own culture and philosophy of benevolence and kindness. The Asgardians are one path, albeit with some glitches, given all of the old gods are content to have their children raised by their mothers in whatever culture they live in. They've been doing that since the beginning of recorded history.

I LOVE this imagination of Kara!  She is a superwoman and I believe a superwoman’s physique should exhibit the awesome/incredible physical strength and power it contains.  Broad shoulders, full chest, built arms down to built quads and calves that flex and swell as she moves all communicate power.  You incorporated that into your women (e.g. Fairchild and her lover Helen, the former airline attendant) in the Aurora Universe when this all began.  I would be AWESOME to see it again.  Look forward to it.

Hello! Been a fan of yours since the late 90's! So, this begs the question, how do Velorians cut their hair (or do they)? Been *quite* a while since I've read any of your stuff. Great to know you're still around and writing :)

Hello! Been a fan of yours since the late 90's! So, this begs the question, how do Velorians cut their hair (or do they)? Been *quite* a while since I've read any of your stuff. Great to know you're still around and writing :)

Velorians are humans at their core, with a portion of their junk genes replaced with very active Galen genes. Galens are a superhuman humanoid race of immense power whose claim to fame is extensive knowledge of advanced genetic engineering. But if you suppress the energies that the Galen use to power Velorians, which you can do with the proper application of gold, then Velorians are only a few times stronger than human and become somewhat vulnerable. Still mostly bulletproof, but greatly weakened. That makes them vulnerable to certain kinds of diamond-edged cutting tools. Hair cutting is possible in such situations without discomfort.

Of course, the infamous side-effect of wearing gold is heightened libido and loss of inhibitions, which ensures that gold-wearing, clothing-shedding Velorians are the life of any party. And given they are prone to nymphomania in the best of  cases, that could make it interesting for the hair stylist.

----

With Kryptonians, they are energized by yellow-sun rays that penetrate deeply into the Earth, and are difficult to stop. So it's harder to deplete a Kryptonian of energies, and even then, they'd be invulnerable to hair cutting given they aren't human and their DNA works completely differently. They are also highly vulnerable to Kryptonite that not only weakens them, but threatens to kill them with enough or long enough exposure. And it's incredibly painful even at low levels. Using Kryptonite, even a small amount, to weaken them for a haircut would be kind of like we humans taking arsenic to suppress pain during dental work. It might work, but might also kill us.

Or so I envision it...

There is also a bit at the end of Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow (Issue #8)  that is 300+ years in the future. She's not too much older looking but is a bit more mature. It's a few pages long (the whole storyline is pretty good).

It also led to one of the few times I got ornery over a costume change, as they put current timeline Supergirl into this costume... which then meant one of two things:

- Supergirl wears the same costume for 300+ years.
- For some random reason, she wears a 300+ year old costume to meet with an old friend she didn't wear that costume around.

And people just ignored that it was a costume from 300 years in the future.  *sigh*

And .. she's changed costumes again. Which is good as that costume was great for a Supergirl in the future just not the one from NOW.  The new costume is better, and having her drawn by Dan Mora makes up for a lot.  Not my favorite costume but it'll do.
