The Flash Trailer

Released today, it features some great action by Sasha Calle's Supergirl, especially at the end. Controversy aside, she looks pretty damn good IMO and personally I'm looking forward to the June release.

Like you said, controversy aside, I thought it was very good looking. I would have liked better looks at her in the costume. But otherwise a good first look. Two batmans, Zod, Supergirl. Looks like a good one.

If Zod is there, are there other Kryptonians.

I dunno, she looks kind of 'masculine' in that form - not exactly Ms. Helen Slater! (or even Melissa for that matter).

 Then the question of who was the occupant of the empty hibernation chamber is resolved? that we saw in the man of steel.Also, it occurred to me that if the ship had been on earth for a long time and that the occupant of the hibernation chamber, we do not know when he left. They could have made a cameo of Helen Slater as a Kryptonian. I don't know if in Man of steel 2 or in another. Maybe in this one from Flash.

I agree with Lfan, this has some promise in regards to a totally new portrayal of Kara. Which I am totally up for. Don't want to see another rehash of past shows/movies and the various Kara's (the best being Smallville's). 

But not sure how we get from here to the Woman of Tomorrow series and then on to Gunn's idea of a movie based on WOT, but clearly that's where Gunn in going. 

BTW... started reading WOT with as open a mind as I'm capable, and I'm enjoying the story, but only a couple of issues in so far. This Kara is recognizable, even as her story and much of her behavior is very different in WOT. (Which we also saw in the Flash trailer, where she delivers punches that are clearly lethal.) But Kal El's influence is still there to some degree, along with the fact that he got around the galaxy a lot before she arrived and many of the people he dealt with don't like him.

Part of that is because she's dealing with the kind of characters that Firefly used to depict living on many of the outer Rim worlds -- lethally criminal types -- as opposed to the proper and upstanding and more civilized citizens (who have different issues), or so it appears to me. 

That's an interesting twist that shapes many of Kara's reactions (and reactions to her) in very dramatic ways. As I see it, she doesn't want to kill people, ala Kal El, but unlike him, she's more than willing to punch someone into the Great Beyond if that's the only way to save the good people.

However this ultimately works out for DC under Gunn's leadership, I'm going to watch the Flash movie as soon as it streams. And no, Kara doesn't absolutely have to be a white, long-haired blonde teenager to work for me.

I think Sasha Calle is going to be just fine in Flash, but it's starting to be hinted that since she's pre-Gunn, and WOT Supergirl is very much cut from the traditional mold in terms of appearance. Gunn is going to base his Supergirl movie on that SG, so Sasha might be a one-and-done character. Too bad, given she's totally stoked on playing the role and might even do it well. We'll see. 

Since they are doing alternate realities, different dimensions, whatever, then anything is possible. Maybe there will be two of them in different dimensions/Earths. Conceptually, DC has done this forever with SG and PG. 

Of course, if I really got my druthers, I'd love to see a Powergirl movie where they really do justice to the character. But a Kryptonian with big muscles and even bigger boobs, which are mostly on display, would probably generate a lot of negative reactions, so its likely much easier for their usual demographic to go with Sasha as the alternate to the blonde SG. Oh well. Could still be good.

From the way things are being talked about in the news and gossip rags, Sasha Calle is a one and done version of Supergirl period. This is the final film before the latest DC reboot. The only exception would be if she so utterly amazes fans and critics that the producers feel they have to keep her on.

BUT this also looks like a multiverse or timeline change story, so no guarantee she is even still around when the Flash fixes whatever he needs to fix.

This is Gunn's vision -- I think.  

I Photoshopped this out of DC's promotional poster for their Legion animation (which isn't this good) and put it against a Kryptonian blue background, and did a little cleanup and mild enhancement.  

The Legion movie was Ok if you really like Kara, but otherwise would be a dud. Kara was featured in the film all the way through, but the writing wasn't so great. But an hour or so of Kara is always worth watching. 

This, I believe, is Gunn's vision of Kara. She looks much closer to the traditional concept. Yet given this SG's story and personality will be based on Woman of Tomorrow, she's definitely not the usual Kara. Some of which is hinted by her expression. 

I thought it was a nice piece of artwork that needed a bit of spiffing up. Hope you like it. 

I think it is also encouraging relative to where DC is going with her.

Don't think this is Gunn's idea of Supergirl, but this movie conception and casting precedes him. 

For my money, any Supergirl on the big screen is better than none. From the earlier trailer, she is not shy about using her superstrength when required, so that might be cool. 

But I do lament that calf-high boots and a short skirt are considered exploitive by current movie audiences. Or so it seems. There is a place for tradition. But I suppose the audience of people buying movie tickets is poorly represented by those of us who came to enjoy the girl from Krypton in the 60's through 80's.

VERY little of Supergirl's attire is appealing to me. That haircut is terrible.

I'm hoping beyond hope that the story is actually good!

New clip has a Kara spit that’s pretty good

That’s an interesting way to prove you are strong: a super-spit. 

I like the overall backstory for this version of Kara. In this dimension, Kara, not Kal, came to Earth, apparently at an age where she’d formed a strong attachment to Krypton. She can’t get past that and she thinks like a Kryptonian, unlike Kal who was thoroughly human inside. This means that Kara uses a LOT more power to do things. 

Superman was always amazingly gentle given his great strength, but Kara is brutal at times.

This could be fun.  Plus she was trapped and experimented on in Russia for some time. Wonder how they will play that out regarding the way she thinks — a Russian Kryptonian?
