And seeing as Aquaman has grossed over 1 billion world wide and is the highest grossing DC movie, I think it's fair to say that people don't mind race swapping a character.
And yes, I would take a good actor that will do the part well over someone who just looks the part.

We can very easily have both, I don't know why people operate in this blatantly false dichotomyIt's not bad casting if the actor does the part well.

Marvel has gotten really lucky with their casting on several fronts.
But where are you going to find a 6 foot tall, 160 pounds of muscle woman with greek descent that is also a great actress?

The casting problem for comic characters will hopefully be solved while I can still enjoy it by CGI advances such that animation matches real actors. In other words, cross the uncanny valley.I feel like that's true to a point. Like you're almost never going to find someone with the height and proportions of Power Girl who also has the right face and hair and can act. The odds are very slim. I'd almost say that's the same with Wonder Woman where a woman with true Amazonian proportions who can also act well enough to have the lead role is gonna be a hell of a search (It's why I thought Carter was great, Godot not so much). However Kara/Supergirl it should be a snap to find someone who looks like the comic as there's a ton of blonde pretty thin girls in Hollywood.k
It opens the door ultimately to individualized interpretations of each character.
In that era, some people might want a perfect reproduction of Lynda Carter in her prime, identical to reality or maybe enhanced a bit.
I might want my Wonder Woman movie with Diana looking more like Titania.
But when CGI actors become indistinguishable from live action, and can be created to look any way, things are going to get REALLY interesting.

The racial characteristics of who was cast probably had little to nothing to do with the decision to pull the release. I am the decision had everything to do the writing and direction new management wanted to take with the franchise. The ONLY film from the DC Universe that has received positive reviews is the first Wonder Woman. Pretty much every film done other than Wonder Woman post Christopher Nolan has been panned. And this one was no different.Saw this report last night too.
Good. Get rid of all the crap and focus on what works going forward.
All these stupid films that they were planning are getting canned by the new management. Why? Because they are shit.
You wanna do a Supergirl film? You get a BLONDE BLUE-EYED GORGEOUS actress to play KARA. That's what you do. Not some random nobody who checks boxes.
You wanna do a Batgirl film? You get a WHITE girl to play her. Don't go race-changing for the sake of it. Same with Batwoman. Why did it HAVE to be a lesbian actress playing her??? Get the best person for the job.
It seems the new management at WB-Discovery is finally realising check-box shit don't fly. You wanna make money, you stick to the source. It's not rocket science.
Hopefully the new DC direction works out for them.
Peace.

Per your comment on race, I am assuming you were equally or more outraged that a studio cast a guy by the name of Benedict Cumberbatch to play the role of Khan Noonien Singh in “Star Trek: Into Darkness”. I don’t think anything more needs to be said about the racial disconnect there. And btw, Eartha Kitt was very successfully cast as “Catwoman” in the Batman series from the 60s which clearly demonstrates Hollywood’s experimentation with characters predates “Wokeness” by over half a century.
This was about writing.

If you read the thread and my other posts, you will see that this has NOTHING to do with race or gender. The racial characteristics of who was cast probably had little to nothing to do with the decision to pull the release….
Ah yes, one of the –isms being called into effect. Again, please read the whole of my responses in this thread and you will see that race is NOT the issue, as I have pointed out. But you seem to miss this.Per your comment on race, I am assuming you were equally or more outraged that a studio cast a guy by the name of Benedict Cumberbatch to play the role of Khan Noonien Singh in “Star Trek: Into Darkness”. You do know that writing a CHARACTER and thus choosing their depiction; race, gender, sexuality, etc. IS part of the writing process? This was about writing.
Yes, the writing has been complete crap in ALL DC movies, even the hallowed Wonder Woman which some rave about.
WW was complete shit. It would probably have been worse had they not literally copied Captain America: The First Avenger.
So in the sense of the writing for this film being shit being a factor, we are in agreement.
The point though is, what is the basis of the writing process? Are you making a film out of the comic, or are you looking at a list of boxes first?
Peace.

As for testing, I hate audience testing as it can be extremely hit or miss. Pre-pandemic, test screenings were often whatever random person they could find on a weekday in the local mall or off the street. So, you would get test screenings where the audience hated the film but no one in the film's actual target audience was present.
The equivalent of showing "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle" at a retirement home while showing "On Golden Pond" to an elementary or high school class.

Hands on her hips, head held high and haughtily aloft, she asked "Do I tick all the boxes? Will I do?Saw this report last night too.Good. ...My laser blue eyes seem sharper here, due to my new x-ray vision. My glorious long blonde hair has lengthened down to the small of my back and is now WILD! These newly luscious lips of mine are now perfect after I discovered the so-cool Superbreath I can blow constantly, non-stop through them from my enhanced lungs. Now, rising above my lungs? Well, what can I say? This beautiful chest of mine, they have also enhanced themselves, both now defying gravity - I am nearly bursting through my bikini top now! It used to hold me so easy before....All of this because I have arrived on this amazing planet of yours! Is there anything my body cannot achieve or do in this world?"

As far as DC movies go, like most of you, I'm not sure what the plan is. I'm somewhat interested in Black Adam and Shazam 2 (mostly for Mary Marvel if I'm honest

The only thing I would like to see is a sequel to ZS's Justice League in which Darksied invades Earth and the JL has to fight him off. That would be epic!
